Jeep Commander

At first I really hated the new Jeep. On looking closer, its really growing on me, in an old Cherokee kinda way. I think if I was in the market for a 3 row seating suv, this would be at the top of mu list. Options add quickly though I've heard. Check out this jeep commercial: www.jeep.com/urbanstyle/ actually there is two commercials there, both imo are pretty cool, even if you don't like the suv.

Other than the tried-and-true inline 6 cylinder in the Wrangler, there ain't a Jeep I'd trust in an offroad environment.

I like it. The styling is something that screams Jeep...not like the Compass or new Geand Cherokee.

re Darin's lack of trust:

I've had an '86 Cherokee (when they were made by AMC) since new. Has 210,000+ miles. Been on all kinds of 4x4 roads, including Elephant Hill in Canyonlands. NEVER a problem (off-road). It's a 4cyl/5speed model. In almost 20 years, it's had an engine rebuild and the usual wear items. ONE clutch.

Interestingly, when I went into Canyonlands on Elephant Hill road, that was definitely going to be the toughest 4x4 environment I'd yet been in. I asked the ranger how Cherokees fared in there. She said they were not a problem. But she did mention that she always recommended people driving Explorers think long and hard before going in. Lots of em getting towed out she said, and that ain't cheap.

So I think I'd take Darin's bias with a large dose of salt.

George: I'd agree with you on the 4 and inline 6 Jeep engines... but their v-6's and v-8's are not known for their mechanical reliability. Same goes for electrical systems on the new Jeeps. I've read enough owner reports to understand why they are rated so low on reliability.
