Rant on.

Hopefully nobody picks this guy up. I'm tired of these guys that think that college is just a waystation to make it to the NFL. Especially someone riding to coattail of his brother. In case you haven't heard or figured it out, I'm talking about Markus Vick. Since he decided to try and injure an opposing player, the University has "dismissed" him. Now he decides "what the hell. I'll just go pro." And why not? He is just a punk that has no respect for anything or anyone. His big brother is in the NFL (and in my opinion hasn't proven himself either), so some team out there will pick him up, pay him alot of money, and when he finally ruins his life or someone elses, it'll be "oops my bad" and on with his life. Hopefully, teams have learned from the Marice Clarrett debockel and leave this kid to wonder what might have been. His brother and him are not the Manning's (IMO great family upbringing). I'm not talking bad about Mike Vick. (even though IMO he's a Mediocre QB. He should be a RB) But his brother isn't going to change. If he's doing this crap now, what's he going to do when he gets the money when he turns pro?

Rant off.

Any team that is even interested in this guy should pause and monitor him for about a year to see how he carries himself. That one single play was enough for me to forget about him no matter how good a ballplayer he may be. Sportsmanship doesn't seem to run in the family.

Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Pete Rose weren't angels either, but they still turned out to be some decent ball players. I never heard of this guy or his brother, but I wouldn't base a career on one dumb move.

Nelson, It's not just one "dumb move". Read the article. He also has a drug charge, serving alcohol to minors, driving without a license and while a license suspention, and a few others. His brother is the QB for Atlanta Falcons. i agree with you about the Ty Cobb, Pete Rose, and Babe Ruth, but this kid isn't pro. What is he going to do when he thinks the teams lawyers are behind him?

oh I dont know....sex boat crusies, drugs, weapons charges, rape, assault.

it is already in the NFL, Marcus Vick isnt the first.....and wont be the last.

I think Scott is correct. The NFL owners only look at the wins and the revenue coming in.

If the fans of that team let the owners know that they will not attend games if these ganster elements are allowed to play. I think the NFL recently came up with a dress code for the players, and I think a gode of conduct should be the next item on the agenda. If the guy does not meet minumum behavior standards in college he should be banned from playing in the NFL. If they play violates the NFL code of conduct he should be suspended without pay and ordered to pay a hefty fine before he can play again or be fired and banned from the NFL.

These players are the heros that many kids look up to. What kind of message are we sending to these kids when they get paid huge salaries and thumb their nose at the fans that pay their salaries.

Somebody will take Marcus Vick on. On the field, he's a good athlete and a playmaker, which doesn't make him a good person. Then again, the NFL has never cared about the character of their players, only about their performance. Hmmm, maybe the Eagles have started something good by firing T.O.

As far as the PGA goes, they actually have rules about sportsmanship and ettiquite, and there's tremendous peer pressure among the pros to act the sportsman. Rory Sabbatini got hammered by the press and fellow golfers for putting out and walking off of the 17th green while his playing partner, Ben Crane, was still walking up to the green. Rory was fed up with Ben's snail-paced slow play. Rory probably won't do that again (then again, Ben Crane has made an effort to speed up his play). John Daly's problems with alcohol (among other issues) have cost him, but he's been a sportsman on the course. It's his private-life problems off the course that have kind of cast him in the light as an "everyman" and made him a fan favorite (well, that, and the long ball).

Richard,

Don't know about the NFL, but the NBA just instituted a dress code for it's players. And wouldn't ya know it, but one of their highest paid players actually had the nerve to ask for a 'clothing allowance' to buy suits with, because he didn't think that he should have to spend any of his millions on suits to wear to work!

RichardL, I agree with you about the standards that need to be in place. But it was the NBA that instituted the dress code. Which should be in football also. Look at the RB from Washington. he shows up at news conferences dressed as characters. He must think he's in the WWE. That is why I believe in what the Yankee's do to thier players.(even though alittle harsh at times) No facial hair and such. If I'm paying you millions to play a kids game then you will look professional.;)

I also hope teams think twice about signing him, though I doubt they will. If they think he can win games, they don't care about anything else. Look at how much of a stink Terrell Owens caused just because of his ON-FIELD actions. If Marcus Vick goes into the NFL and continues to play with no sportsmanship and continues with his legal troubles, god help him. And god help us all, because it'll be non-stop coverage from the media.

stonemiser, so what if Clinton Portis shows up to ONE media conference a week wearing some type of costume. Football is a serious game for players and coaches and there is a ton of pressure that goes along with that. What he does is all in fun, and I'm glad the Redskins and the NFL aren't too much of a stiff to realize that.

As a whole in any league, your players can look professional without someone turning into a little appearance nazi going to ridiculous lengths. Now when there is a problem with athletes maintaining the professional standard, then by all means be stricter. With that said, I would gladly shave my face to rake in the kind of money the average Yankee's player makes.

To bad Jesse Jackson doesn't own a team. He could then play for him. If Jeese can stick up for a murdering gang-banger then Vick would be like a choir boy.

Keep in mind guys, Vick could be another Clarrett waiting to happen. Somehow Mike Shanahan has gotten off scott free by destroying a good draft pick on Clarrett, and where is he now? NFL teams rarely if ever take troubled players high in the draft (aka Randy Moss). So, if he is taken I would think it will be somebody taking a flyer on him. Somewhere late 1st maybe?

Clarrett is a thug and that is it. He just got busted for trying to rob someone. He fleed the scene but later turned himself in. The guy couldn't even make the Broncos practice squad! I haven't been to a NFL game in 20 years and don't plan on going to another anytime soon.

MLB...I did spring training with my 12 year old daugther. I was amazed at how many players won't even sign autographs. Do they forget who really pays their salaries? The fans! After that I didn't see a single game last year. And, I won't this year either.

Krash,

You are probably riight that it was the NBA that created a dress=code for players. So if the NBA can do that, I think the NFL, MLB, etc can have a Code of Conduct for all players and potential players.

What's Levi's gonna make for 'em? Denim leisure suits??? Like I said above, Allen Iverson has already complained about having to buy suits to wear to the games. The guy's making millions, and he's complaining because he can't dress like a hip hop star when he comes to work, with his baggy pants and bling bling... Poor guy!

Many players wont sign authgraphs now because they all believe collectors are paying these kids to get these autographs.

Clarrett is a thugh, but outside of that it's his of the field troubles that led to his demise. Teams are way more reluctant now to draft these types of players early. I would be shocked if Vick went early, but then again, I don't know how good he really is as I don't follow NCAA much.

He is more of a "pocket QB" than his brother. But really nothing special. I don't think he'd go early either but in my opnion, he shouldn't go at all. I know someone will pick him as a "let's try it, he could be another Brady" type crap. I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong if he does get picked up and does REALLY well, but I'm not to worried though.;)
