If the players unions put up such a stink over drug testing, does anyone actually believe that they will allow the league to institute any kind of sportsmanship rules, dress code, code of conduct or code of deceny?
Get Real.
Get rid of the players unions and the way over-payed wages and kick the owners square in the ass and then lets talk about what can be done.
There are few sports who actually police themselves, IE NASCAR. If a fight breaks out, they punish. If a driver is aressested for suspected DUI, the team took care of him.
Kind of odd comming from a sport that grew out of rum-running and prohibition.
I have no sympathy for any major league player in any sport. When in MLB the league minimum pay is more than $150K for sitting on a bench, there are real issues.
One of my grandfathers was drafted by the Cardnals MLB back in the 50's. He declined as then the wages could not support a family.
The other one of my grandfathers was drafted by the Browns to play football in the 50's. Again declined. He could make more money in business.
This crap about players needing the money because they are role models is bunk. It's because they are role models they sould decline the money and take a less exhuberant wage.
They will not be getting any of my hard earned cash
That being said, it is capitalism at it's finest.
