Key Fob Programming. I'm a moron?

I bought a new key fob off ebay for a 03 trac. Tried doing the 8 time cycle from off to run but the locks never repond and enter programming mode. Am I this retarded or is there a trick to getting the truck to respond to programming mode?

Doing a search, I found the following, but it sounds like what you have been doing,

... Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN (do not start engine at any point here). All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Within 20 seconds, press any button on first remote transmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Within 20 seconds, press any button oon second transmitter (up to 4 fobs possible). Turn ignition off. Locks will cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

And I found this on the net, it is different than the above;

Maybe a dumb question, but do you have a keypad on your drivers door? Not all ST's had remote locks.

I figured it out. I needed to have the doors unlocked prior to starting the sequence. DOH!
