So one last one, -2(x+2)=-2x+1. There is no answer, right?

If you reduce the equation you get:



-2x-4=-2x+1



reduce it further by adding 2x to both sides



-4=+1



No solution to this equation.

My wife said you have a math mistake. This is her answer:



X= -1.25



-2(X+2)=2X+1

Multiply it out and you get -2X-4=2X+1

Add 2X to both sides and you get -4=4X+1

Minus 1 from both sides and you get -5=4X

Divide both sides by 4 and you get X=-1.25

Gary - you've missed the negative sign in front of the "2x" on the right side of the equal mark in the original equation.
