A buddy of mine has an explorer all done up, lowered, rims, tint, etc. and the end of his lease is comming up, he doesn't know what to do can he trade in the explorer as is or will he have to change things back? I told him that he might want to change it back, even though it looks better??? any sugg.

With all that work into it, he should just buy it out. Cosmetic mods like tint and vent visors wont matter, but put the stock rims back on and hope they don't notice that it was lowered.

He will probably lose money on it due to it being lowered and such. Change it back is my opinion. They may try to charge him to get it back to stock before taking out of the lease. I could be wrong since I've never leased before, but the ones I looked at, they want the car back in the same condition they gave it to you or they charge you what it would cost to put it back. (they do allow some acceptable wear and tear but I don't think lowering and such would be considered "wear and tear");)

Just before I turned in my leased 2001 Sport Trac, Ford sent me an inspection guilde that showed how big/small a windshield chip could be before they charged for repairs. How big a dent, scratch or chip had to be before I would be charged. I did not explain much about alterations so I was concerned about my wood dash kit, bug-deflector and the back window visor.

I called my dealer/salesman and he told me there is no problem with those mods since they are common and add to the vehicles value, or could be removed easily if necessary, He said that vehicle modifications that could lower the resale value where cause for concern, but most add on accessories were OK. Lowering would be one of those borderline things.

I recommend that he go buy the dealer and ask if the lowered vehicle will cause a problem at the end of the lease. If they indicate yes, the remove the blocks and crank up the torsion bars. You won't need to get it realigned since they don't inspect that.
