I have an '02 ST. The gear shift lever is fairly loose. I've loosened the shroud around the steering column and see the lever is held in place with a pin. This is the part that is very loose. The gear indicator works well and the bolts on the back side of the dash are tight. Any suggestions on how to tighten up the gear shift and/or buy replacement parts?

Are both Torx bolts under the dash board snug?

Yes I've checked the bolts which are tight but that is not the problem. There is more play (movement) in the shifter at the column than I think it should be like. Seems like the pin that connects the shift lever to the column could be larger so it will be tighter. I can't find any adjustments and i don't know if the amount of play is normal or not.

I am also experiencing vagueness in the column shifting mechanism on my 2003.

Very rarely I may find that the transmission is selected between detents for D and 1.

I notice weird behavior in the trans and then I stop and reselect "D" and i am OK.

This happens maybe once or twice a year.

I have also checked the two torx bolts and they are fine. To me, it all appears to be wear and tear in the column. I don't think the cable is shot. I've lubricated under the rubber boot into the column with silicone spray, and this has helped a little. But it still feels vague.

I'd like to know what parts I could order from the dealer for the column that would make it feel brand new again.
