Are 16" rims the same width? Are the only difference the back space of the rims? I ask because I have the opportunity to get a set of rims off of a escape. They are 16" rims, would be the same bolt pattern. The tires that are on there now are 235/70r16. so would my tires that are 255/70-16 fit okay?

You will have an issue with those rims. The Escape wheel is 7 inches wide whereas the ST wheel is 8 inches wide. Realistically a 255 series tire should be on an 8.5 inch wide rim so already the Escape rim is too narrow. Will the tire fit on it, sure but it's not optimum. Also the offset on the Escape rim is a et30 and the ST wheel is an ET40 which means that the Escape wheels are going to stick out further. This could possibly have an affect on wheel bearing longevity. I think you should pass on those wheels.

I think this is the first time I've ever had the gall to contradict L1tech, but my OEM wheels were most certainly 16x7 with 255/70 tires.

16 x 7 Stock Size

5 x 114.3mm (4.5") Lug Pattern

12mm Offset

70.6mm Hub Bore

44mm Backspacing

2001 Job 1 (235/75-15)

2001-05 (Job 2) 3:73 = 235/70-16 / 4:10 = 255/70-16
