Hi guys! I need help with my trac, this morning on the way to church i heard a loud noise in front of the trac. when i rev up to 25k rpm it seem to lower the noise but if in idle in park it made a loud noise. So after church i open the hood and remove the belt and found this out. What is this called and how bad is this? also is this DIY project or need to take the trac to the shop?

thanks a lot for the help guys!

Check ALL your pulleys for movement after you remove the SERPENTINE belt.

All you need is a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar. Any grinding metal sounds?

I remove the upper pully and belt tensioner. i put grease in both pully i need to replace them soon. i re-grease those for temporary fix coz i need the trac tomorrow for work. those are the pully that grind little bit when i check them. the rest is fine.

Thanks for quick response swshawaii!

Replace the belt and bad pulleys ASAP or you will have much bigger problems. GL

If that is the crank pulley. It appears your harmonic balancer pulley assy is bad. The pulley has come loose from the rubber isolator on the balancer. Common problem on the 4.0L motor.

You will need a Puller to remove it. A 3/4 or 7/8 socket, cant remember. A 1/2" drive breaker bar or long handled ratchet. Also a pulley holder, to keep it from turning pulling the center bolt. You can borrow the puller sometimes from a parts store. May have to get the part from Ford. If you have high milage. Replace the crank seal.

You may have to pull the radiator shroud for work room. Might have to remove the fan also.

"Dont drive it until fixed." The pulley can slip the other way and throw into the radiator. Or cause severe engine imbalance. From being loose.

It is a DIY if your experianced.

Thanks to all help guys!

Apears they upgrade the balancer. Also has an aluminum pick-up for the hall effect of crank sensor posistion. HMM! wonder if it is better than the original.
