Any one have any experience with this. I need a designated fax line and this sounds like the perfect idea for that. ?????????????????

I have thought about it myself. The one thing I worry about is. When my broadband or cell service is down. My land line always works. So Im on the fence. Need to save $$ though. Might be a great opttion. Hopefuly they wont raise the cast to a monthly fee.

You know what I do for a living..

Several of my co-workers have it and absolutely love it.

Bring it with them on our trips including over-seas. The charge is slightly more for most international locations, but still dirt cheap.

I went ahead and ordered one. 39.95 with the 1st year service free. Then is 19.95 (for now) per year. If it works, I might buy the 5 yr plan for 59.99. In case the prices go up. But still ,,,, 20$ a year for a fax line compared to 38$ a month for a land line. Even I can get this one....:wacko::blink:

LaRue,

I think what Joseph was saying is that most homes have two lines already to them and if the 2nd line with its own phone number is set up as a "dedicated Fax line" the phone company often cuts a break. We had a 2nd line like that that had no local, long distance, and only incoming and 1-800 dialing capability. It cost about $15/mo (still pretty high).

I assume your home line and dsl line are one-in-the-same, allowing for a second line and # if the phone company cabled your house that way. As I said, terminating two lines to the house is typical around here anyway.

Here's a small link to a utility that will tell you how good you internet provided would be in supporting Voip

LaRue, I bought one about a month ago. It works as advertised. I used it with a modest DSL line (256K up/768K down). It worked well, as long as nothing else was hogging that bandwidth. Well worth it.

I use Ooma, no monthly service and your pc doesn't have to be on so your not wasting power.

you can get it from amazon or costco for $229

For about 50 dollars you can get a fax switcher.

I have one at work and one at home.

When a call comes in to your number, it goes through the switcher box.

The box determines whether it's a call or a fax and routes it to the appropriate device.

They've been working flawlessly in both locations for close to 15 years.

The link takes you to just one example:

TRJ, yes I have the extra "pairs" but it is still 18$ a month. I use a fax, in or out about 6-10 times a year. Mostly from lockwork coming through my contracts. They send a fax, and then I find out I have a job... So I have to have an open fax line available.

Jon... too much money upfront for now..

Jerry, home demographics won't allow a switcher. I'm familiar with them because I used to have one installed. They are great if you can put the all-in-one and the phone base station in the same place. In the kingdom of Rose,,,, won't work... (ILY Rose  )
