This weekend I took the Trac to Sears because I was hearing a squealing noise from what I thought was my brakes. The tech as Sears stated my brakes were fine however, I had 1/4 inch play in my rear wheels and suggested I take the truck to a mechanic that works on rear axles. Has anyone else had this problem? What was the fix and how much did it cost?

Some play is normal. 1/8 inch what I consider normal, 1/4 inch is at the top end of what is considered accepteable.

I assume you mean in and out not up and down.

If it is up and down you need axle bearings as there should be virtually no movement in the up and down motion...

The squealing noise could be from the "excluder seals" (dust seals) on the front. These get dry and start to make noise.
