I just finished my first metal fab project. First time working with metal really and first welding project. It's just a small roof rack for next to my Yakima Skybox.

I'm priming it now, and paint later, so I guess it isn't done, but the fab part of it is..

Looks good. How big?

That's possibly my next project. I started my first metal fabricating project today. I'll post more about it later. Hint: I'm using 3/8" steel flat stock.

It's 5' x 14" x 6" should hold a gas can or two nicely. Along with a few camp chairs or other random stuff that doesn't really matter if it gets wet.

It looks like about 1/2" or 3/4" thin wall square tubing. By the welds it looks like steel rather than aluminum.

Steel thin wall 3/4" good eye Richard :supercool:

For how much it will get used I think the rubberized undercoating from a spray can should hold up fine. If it doesn't then I will look into powder coat, but right now I've only got about $30 into it so I can't really justify the cost of powder coat.

Ha thanks, but they aren't thats why there aren't any close ups

I'm sure there was good penetration, but I'm using a BS harbor freight 90 amp mig welder so they look like splattered bird poo.. lots of grinding on this project to clean them up.
