ANYONE WITH A 2007 OR NEWER SPORT TRAC HAVE ANY KIND OF PROBLEMS WITH THE MICHELIN 235 65 R18 104S TIRES WEARING DOWN REALLY BAD?

THEY ARE THE FACTORY INSTALLED TIRES. I ONLY HAVE 18,00 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND AM BEING TOLD I NEED NEW TIRES ALREADY. I ONLY PUT 1,400 MILES ON MY TRUCK IN 4 MONTHS. JUST TRYING TO GET SOME INFO IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

I've heard of the Michelin tires wearing quickly.

I have an 07 XLT with Goodyear and 31,000 miles, tires are only 1/2 worn - seriously. I tow a camper and corner pretty quickly too. I'm not all easy on the tires.

I was actually hoping they were more worn so I could get bigger and wider ones.

I BABY MY TRUCK. I ORDERED IT FROM THE FACTORY. I WANTED THE GOODYEAR FORTERA SILENT ARMOUR BUT IT DIDN'T GET THE CHOICE OF WHAT TIRE I WANTED BECAUSE IT CAME WITH 18'S. I WAS TOLD BY MICHELIN TO GO TO ONE OF THERE SPECIALISTS TO HAVE THE TIRES CHECKED, THEY INSPECTED THE TIRES AND MICHELIN WILL COVER 65% OF THE TIRE. JUST THE TIRES ARE 250 EACH PLUS MOUNTING AND BALANCING. I'M NOT CRYING ABOUT IT I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK. AND I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS EVERY 18,000 MILES.

I ran into the same issue. Michelin offered to cover a portion of the replacement only if I bought another set of Michelin tires. They offered me 200 towards the purchase. I made it to 32,000 on mine factory Michelins. Put on a set of Fortera Silent Armors and have been very happy so far. The Silent Armors were not available in the 18" size in an exact size match, so the one I got are a bit wider then stock, but they look great on the ST. I am in FL now and the ST is in VA, so I can't tell you the exact size they are. I'll look when I get back home.

I'M GETTING THE SAME OPINION ABOUT MICHELIN. I THINK IT'S OBVIOUSLY A BAD DESIGN ON THE TIRE. I HAD THE SILENT ARMORS ON MY 02 ST WHICH MY FATHER NOW OWNS AND HE HAS NO COMPLAINTS AFTER PUTTING 25,000 MILES ON THEM. I'M JUST TRYING TO SEE IF I WAS THE ONLY SPORT TRAC HAVING THIS KIND OF PROBLEM WITH THE FACTORY MICHELIN'S, I GUESS NOT.

Mine were completely shot at 22,000 miles, despite regular rotation, balancing, and an alignment at 10,000 miles.

My wife had Michelin Cross-terrains on her Jeep Liberty and they still had half their tread left at 65,000 miles.

Michelin obviously unloaded a bunch of junk for the OEM Sport Trac tires.

Michelin wouldn't warranty my tires- said the wear was within the normal range.

I HAD 2,500 MILES ON MY TRUCK WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME MY TIRES WHERE "CHOPPY". THE DEALER TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IN FOR AN ALIGNMENT, WHICH WAS DONE WITHIN IN DAYS. THEN MY TIRES AND OIL HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND CHANGED EVERY 3,000. IT WAS ALL DONE AT THE DEALER, SO IT'S NOT LIKE I'M TRYING TO SCAM MICHELIN. IT'S ALL DOCUMENTED!! BUT IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN GET TO AT LEAST 30,000 MILES WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT TIRES ON.

Harry:

I drive very careful and at almost 20,000 mile on my Goodyear FORTERA's, they will need replacing in the fall. I might get 25,000 out of them. This is with regular rotation and I'm check the pressue quite often! Most of the time I have gotten 50 to 65,000 out of OEM tires(on cars since this is my 1st SUV/truck).

A word to the wise. You might want to not type in CAPS or even BOLD. I used to do that and was hammered for it. Some folks are real case sensative from my experience. Sad but true!

Good luck,

Gary:D

I upsized my OEM tires on my 2008 SportTrac soon after purchase in November, so I have four almost new Michelin tires available--only 1200 miles on them. Tire size: 235/65/R18 (for SUV/light trucks). All-season 65,000 mile tires. Pittsburgh, PA area.

Asking $350 (OBO) for the (4 tire) set

Please let me know if interested! Thank you

GARY THANKS !!!!!!

I'd like to thank everyone for there feedback. I'm only 27 and am not the kid I was in high school doing burnouts in my camaro, I have 2 children so they're my priority and I don't drive like I'm 30 minutes late for work. It seems like I got some of the feedback that I wanted and am just a little disappointed I guess with the brand "MICHELIN" because even with horrible driving you might get have of what they rate there tires at, and i didn't even get that!

SafetyGeek : I will let you know, if not I have a friend with an 07 Eddie Bauer Explorer with same rims and tires and see if he is interested. He at least made it over 30,000 miles.

I am convinced it is only an issue with the 18" SportTrac OEM tires. However, after being burned, it has scared me from investing my money in Michelins ever again.

If anyone is having the same problem with these tires try and contact Michelin and see what they can do for you. 1-866-866-6605.......... maybe the tires have changed a little in almost 2 yrs.

Gavin, don't worry about Michelin tires.

If you buy a proven tire, you can't go wrong.

I've been using them for as long as I remember and have never been burned.

It's too bad they agreed to build Ford's OEM tire as a low bidder.

The answer I got today was they discontinued the 104s, obviously because they figured out there was a problem with the design of the tire. Every tire store I checked had 2 different part #'s (Discontinued michelin 51880 ... was replaced by # 20950). I was told it is the same tire but a different design and diameter was different but the rep on the phone seemed like she had no clue and couldn't really figure out the difference between the two.

I have to buy tires now - i just hit 20 K on my 07 Limited w/ 18"

these needed to be replaced 2000 miles ago. i won't buy Michelin again

I have been looking at the Kumho tires and the bfgoodrich LongTrails - cant make up my mind, but the Kumho are about $500 at Discount Tire - and the Long Trails are $700 at Costco

Mike, I just had my tires replaced yesterday and it cost me just under $400. I stuck with the michelins because they paid for 65% of my tires and it's a new design and the tires look alot beefier and the ride is better. Call Michelin and see what they tell you. From what I got tires that where installed at the factory where crap and Michelin figured it out. But if you are going away from Michelin go with the Long Trails, everyone I've talked too do not like the Kuhmo's.
