Is there any chance that we can resurrect Grover Cleveland and re-elect him as president in 2008? That's the kind of President we NEED! Instead, we're probably going to get Hillary Clinton...and watch the "general welfare" spending ramp up to unprecedented levels! That's a whole other argument though, and totally unrelated to the current thread. Grover Cleveland would be VERY good for the country right about now. Maybe he could teach people something about personal responsibility. Everyone is too afraid of offending people now. There is no such thing as personal responsibility in many American communities anymore. Everyone expects the government to take care of every little problem that comes along...even if it's the person's fault. I don't think "general welfare" in the constitution was intended to cover the 42" plasma screen that you think you are entitled to, nor is it intended to buy you a new house or repay you because you did something STUPID.
What in the hell was that guy in the video above THINKING?!? The level of ignorance on tv never ceases to amaze me. I watched fox quite a bit during the hurricane coverage, but I missed that particular interview. My blood was brought to a boil quite a few times during the days after Katrina.
As for that law in Florida about shoot first, ask questions second...it should be that way in every city and town in the USA. If you cannot feel safe in your own home, where CAN you feel safe? A man (or woman) should be given every opportunity to protect his home and family. There are WAY too many laws set up to give criminals rights. It is my personal belief that criminals don't DESERVE a special set of rights. Jail isn't supposed to be cable TV, good food and comfortable. Yet we have dozens of lawsuits filed every single day about these very things, which clog up our legal system. I'll be generous and give an inmate ONE complaint per year. Once they use that up, they're SOL. The rest of the year, they need to shut their mouth, sit there on their cold, concrete floor and THINK about what they did and how STUPID that was. Here in Missouri, if you shoot someone and they don't have a gun or knife and you can't prove that you were in danger (which is exceedingly hard), you're going to jail...even if you DID feel threatened because some idiot acted like he had a gun. If he had his finger in his pocket, in the shape of a gun, you're going away for a while. It's sad and WRONG. Send Jeb to Missouri when you're done with him, we could use a law like yours.
Anyway, I'd better stop before I get too riled up. hehe
