I am currently looking to purchase a 'chatterbox' for my motorcycle helmet so I'll have the ability to bluetooth connect my helmet with my cell phone, gps, ipod, etc.



Does anyone have one that could give me a quality report / suggestions? This will be one of my lil xmas gifts... to me!

I have old collett communicators that worked well back when I rode regurally with a friend or my wife. These are pre-bluetooth though. Put product quality and sound quality was good.

Thanks JD. but that comes with gps etc. I just need bluetooth capable device that can latch into my already existing gps, phone, and ipod.. i'm leaning towards this Scala Rider set up.

Keep in mind if you are going to listen to music or whatever, that wind noise alone at 55mph is loud enough to damage your hearing.

I use the BlueAnt Interphone...I use mine for rider to passenger communication...I don't answer the phone when I am riding.

good idea. i dont either. only reason i take my cell with me when i ride is in case of an accident. I would like to be able to talk to my fellow riders on long trips though. That would be nice.

Ipod? the sound of the twin pipes is music enough.

















Seriously, anything that distracts you on a motorcycle will get you in trouble. There are so many distracted drivers to watch out for that your total concentration should be on the road, not on a phone call.

You don't mention the type of bike, but check out JM, Touring bike riders use them alot, I had one years ago and could hear the radio/tape/intercom good on my GW. Kinda $$ but good stuff

I have the Chatterbox and use it all the time. I have my MP3/Garmen GPS and my cell phone that I use with it. It is awesome. I would not leave home without it. Last year I took a trip from Salem Oregon to Cheyenne, Wyoming and it was incredible. I had a friend that has one also who went with me and we talked most of the time. It has about a 10 mile signal so if you get separated you can still talk to each other. A lot will depend on the type of wind screen you have and the helmet. I have a Suzuki DL 1000. I have a nice wind screen and a really good helmet so I get very little wind noise. Sound quality is great I would highly recommend getting one.

Kevin - I have a Vee also. Looks like I might be getting a set up similar to yours all around! How do you fair with wind baffling at 65-80? Oh and are you apart www.Vstrom.info ? Got any pics?

My bike looks just like yours. I have a 05 that is all black. I do have pictures but I need to figure out how to post them. Wind baffling at 65-80? I had that problem until I got a new helmet. I do spend a lot of time on the www.Vstrom.info web site.

Good thread. My full-coverage helmet with full face shield is very noisy, even behind a somewhat short windscreen. I understand the windscreen is too short to give good protection, but I am surprised the helmet allows so much noise.



Of course 1600 cc and the very open intake right below, and the Cobras just behind me don't help much, but at least that is a sweet sound....:wub:

Actually, this is a topic I was going to ask.



My wife and I ride. She rides the scooter and I ride my CB550K. It would be nice to have the option to talk to each other. She is a novice rider, as I am too, but I have been riding on two and three wheels off road since I was a small kid. There have been times I would have liked to warn her about something, but since we are on seperate bikes, it is hard to do so.



I liked the description of the one from "http://www.collett.mb.ca/", but I can not figure out what is what.



Anyone know?

Caymen, I agree that something like this would be a very useful tool with new riders. On the last ride I took with my dad we were on the highway and He was in front of me. we were switching lanes but I didn't trust my mirror so I turned my head to check my blind spot before switching lanes. He watched me in his mirror. He said that when I turned my head I came with in inches of hittin a piece of firewood in the road that would have no doubt taken me down. I was probably going between 55 and 70 mph. He would have watched it all happen. Luckily I missed it but I could easily not have been so lucky. Had he been able to talk to me he could have warned me and taken luck out of the equation. Thats a tough situation though, cause you can't always trust your mirrors but turning my head like that makes me feel a little weird and could get me in trouble.

Turning your head is MANDATORY when changing lanes. It is a safe and accepted way to see if anyone is in your huge blind spot.



When I see a biker change lanes without turning their head, I cringe...

Thats true, with a full face helmet, which is all i feel comfortable wearing, you do have a huge blind spot.
