I am having a problem with MS Word 2003 displaying hyperlinks. Where it previously would display the hyperlink text in blue and underlined... it now shows the syntax {HYPERLINK "filename"}

This was not a probelm in the past. Unfortuatlely my 10 month old likes to sit on Daddy's lap and "work" on the computer. She has a fondness for the function keys and pop up screens go by in a flurry when she was "working". After one of her hard days at work... the hyperlink problem appeared.

Any ideas?

Got this from MS Office 2003 Help file, Hope it helps

Turn on or off automatic formatting of hyperlinks

Show All

Hide All

Microsoft Word can format Web and e-mail addresses as hyperlinks (hyperlink: Colored and underlined text or a graphic that you click to go to a file, a location in a file, a Web page on the World Wide Web, or a Web page on an intranet. Hyperlinks can also go to newsgroups and to Gopher, Telnet, and FTP sites.) as you type, but you can turn off this feature if you want.

On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

Under Replace as you type, select or clear the Internet and network paths with hyperlinks check box.

I tried that and still get the same thing. That just makes it so that it doesn't automatically format a URL I type as a hyperlink. Inserting a hyperlink manully at that point leaves me with the same result.

Okay I got it. Because I got the same MS Help advice I decided I needed to change my search string. I typed in "hyperlink field code" and came up with the fact that hitting Alt+F9 hides the code in the document. Hitting Alt+F9 put everything back where it should be.

It makes sense. I guess my little one was supporting her weight on the Alt key while pressing the other function keys.

Thanks for the advice... it pointed me in the right direction.
