This has been a completed project for a while now, but I haven't posted pics yet. Let me know if you want some input on how to do this, unfortunately I did not take any step-by-step photos to make it into a project. Sorry about that

I wouldn't say it was hard to install, but the bezel needed some convincing that it would accept this Double DINN unit. Wiring was a cake walk.

Adam, I'm, from NJ! I just go to school in PA (Lehigh University, B.S. / M.S. Electrical Engineering, M.S. in progress), I wouldn't actually want to live there!!! :p

Shawn,

I have a 2004 Adrenalin and am interested in a unit similar to the one you installed. I have a few questions about the install:

1. Are you still using the OEM Adrenalin speakers/amp/sub?

2. If so, is there an aftermarket wiring harness adapter compatible with the OEM Adrenalin systems's plugs available? If so, did you use one, or just splice into the existing wires?

I'd eventually like to install one of these Pioneer units. I really don't want to replace the Adrenalin amp/sub, but maybe the speakers at some point. I just want to know if this install is possible while still retaining the OEM sub/amp, because I'm pretty satisfied with it.

The only thing that I changed was the head unit. The amp, sub, and speakers are all OEM. I got the wiring harnesses off of ebay for like $15. You need both of them, the 8-pin and the 16-pin (I'm not sure of the pin count on either of those). I'm pretty sure they are the same harnesses that all ST's use.

The thing to remember with this install is that the Adrenalin amp takes low-level inputs (RCA's), so I had to solder on some RCA connectors to the harnesses that I got on ebay to hook into the harness that came with the head unit. The AVIC-D2 has both high and low level outputs (high-level for those people without an external amplifier), don't make the mistake of hooking these into your amp's inputs!

Shawn,

Nice setup and very good work. Continued good luck at Lehigh. Don't knock PA too hard. It's no NJ, I know, but it has its own charm.
