:angry:I would just like to take a few minutes to rant about an A-HOLE. SO I'm on a mini vacation with the family. I park my ST in a parking lot (with parking security people I might add) and I take a ferry boat to the island(Put-in-Bay) We have a really great time, spend the entire day. After a nice dinner we take the ferry back to the packing lot,and to my horror find my ST has been violated. Some A-Hole, sliced my after market tonneau cover and stolen my bed extender. I reported this to the parking lot attendent and he said there was nothing he could do for me. He also said that even though they patrol the lot not much could be done for vehicles that have beed damaged or stolen. Driver beware I guess. Thanks for letting me rant. I feel alittle better! (not really) Well, I'm just gonna have to save up and get every thing replaced. This time I'll get a factory tonneau. Peace and Love to All, except the person that took my stuff (hope you die) Thans again.

I agree, insurance should cover the loss. I would definitely report the lot where it happened and the security firm hired to provide security. Be sure to get a police report.

I just bought a soft cover, and that is what I am worrying about too, not so much the bed extender but the other things I will have on vacation. What kind of tonneau did you have and keep us up to date on the insurance thing. Ron

Place an ad in the local paper for an extender and see if the thief tries to sell it back. You never know, you might catch the creep.

If you paid money for the parking, they ARE liable for damages regardless of what signs they post, or in this case tell you to the contrary. Most people believe that because a sign says they are not liable that they aren't. This is just to minimize claims. They have a duty to "return" the car to you in the same condition you "gave" it to them in (bailor/bailee relationship - they know this). Let the parking lot company use their insurance, not yours.

This is a state specific issue, but in the majority of states, they are required to use reasonable care. Assuming you paid to park there, it is a bailment for mutual benefit and they are not insurors of your property. If the 'security people' qualify as reasonable care is not really a question that you can answer at this point. All depends on how often this stuff happens, what other businesses do in the area, etc.

When you're shopping for hard tonneau covers, give the Advance Cover a look. Costs far less than a factory tonneau, weighs half as much, and is lockable just like the factory one.

Lower profile than the factory cover for slightly better rearward visibility when backing up.

Thanks for all the great info. I will let the insurance companies fight it out. It just sucks that some dumb ass would do this and now I have to do all the leg work to replace everything that i once had. Thanks for all the support and I"ll keep you all updated to what happens. Thanks Again.
