I need some help identifying a noise my 2005 STA has developed. After I've driven a few miles, I start to hear a type of vacuum sound or hissing coming from behind the gauge cluster or maybe from the engine compartment. When I stop, still in drive, you can hear it hissing. Once you take the truck out of drive it stops immediately. You can put it back in drive and it's gone until after you've driven a few more miles and it starts over again.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

I asked about this when I first got mine 04. I'd hear it every now and again but it would stop before it gave me the chance to look under the hood. It was said to be this thing ("purge valve"):

Apparently it's normal. Mine still does it 7 years and 90K miles later.

It's rather annoying really. You'd think there'd be a way of silencing it. But, then again, I can't understand why Ford didn't offer heated mirrors on the ST's either. There's a lot of thinks I'm still learning about my truck. But I love it anyway! :supercool:

Thanks for the info.
