Rodger,

If you check online at stores like AutoZone, NAPA, or O'Reily's or even some of the internet autoparts stores, you can probably find a fuel pump that will be cheaper and come with a longer warranty that beats anything Ford will offer with their OEM replacement.

www.rockauto.com has a huge selection ranging from about $30 to over $300, and they even have a Motorcraft fuel pump that may be cheaper than what a Ford dealer would charge? The only down side of Rock Auto is that they occassionally send you the wrong part... but they will take them back.

Rodger,

OK, here is my recommendation: IMHO I would recommend that you replace the fuel pump or the engine won't go...

Seriously, brand name does not matter that much. If it meets the specs and it comes with a one year + warranty...at half the cost of an OEM replacement it's still a bargain

From what I have seen air-tex and wal-boro. Makes after market oem pumps. Boxed under many different names. I would shop for price and best warranty. Most likley getting the same pump anyway...

Rodger, if you had larger injectors and free flowing intake/exhaust added with a cam that had some mild lift, then you would need to be more concious about the fuel pump. Even the cheapest pump will provide more then enough fuel. My previous truck with the 4.0L had a fuel regulator that stuck closed. I measured the pressure at 93PSI which was supposed to be 39-44PSI.

***NOTE***

No matter what fuel pump you select, have fun changing it. I would probably lift the bed to the side.

I use Delphi or Visteon units when I can't go OEM. Motorcarft is usually pretty close in terms of price and is what I mostly use on Fords. I am not a big Bosch fan unless it is OEM on a european vehicle and the only thing Airtex is good for is target practice.

The thing is that when it comes to fuel pumps and how much of a PITA they are to replace it's one of those items that you only want to do once and not have to do again becasue of an inferior part.

only thing Airtex is good for is target practice.

Never had an airtex pump fail me. Price was good and pressure was right. So Im lucky or it is just an opinion.

I have bought boxed motorcraft pumps. That were made by airtex. Go figure. Did the store dupe me?

If you follow l1tech's advice:

Rock Auto has Delphi pumps for the 2001 Sport Trac for $112.79 with a 12 month warranty

They also sell the equivilent Motorcraft pump for $280.79 also with a 12 month warranty

Kind of a no-brainer for me?

Eddie,

You find different comnpanies making different parts for mfgs all the time however it does not mean that becasue company X makes the OE part for Ford that they also make that part spec'd identically for sale in the aftermarket even though it is the same mfg.

Every one has their own opinions on part brand and that is cool...Ford vs Chevy and so forth and my opinion is based solely on my professional experiences throughout the years...I almost lost my job once due to a Grand Caravan that went through 3 Airtex fuel pump assemblies in as many days..installed an OE unit and never saw that vehicle again...lesson learned. I guess when you are a DIYer then you can afford to take the chance of different mfgs as you have no one to blame but yourself if something goes wrong but when somebody is paying you to do the job they don't wanna hear "it's not my fault the part is cheap" when they just had to pay $75 to get their vehicle towed back to you. On my vehicles I use nothing but OE parts..alwasy have and always will.

Scott,

I totaly understand your point.:supercool:

In my area. Pasadena,Tx. It wasnt until some years ago. That we actualy had a choice. Unless you went to the dealer.

Most parts stores only stocked airtex, around me. That was the only brand offered @ 4 stores. Back in '90 for my '88 t-bird. I have noticed more choices of brands. On many parts nowdays. Including OEM.

I suspect before that. It had alot to do with profit margin, to be made.

As cars are getting more sofisticated. Many DIYers', are getting more part-ticular,(pun)..LOL

Iam more than I use to be, myself...

Sometimes it does create confusion for what brand to buy. Especialy if the difference is $60...LOL
