I have the factory split Tonneau cover on my 2005 Sport Trac. The lock by the tailgate works fine. But the lock by the cab does not. If I turn the key, nothing unlocks. If I crawl into the bed and pull the emergency tab, the cover unlocks. It looks to me like the black part that has the cables going into it that should be "pulled" when I turn the key is not working. The emergency pull tab goes into that same box and if pulled, does pull the cables to unlatch. Anyone experience this problem and fix it? Do I need to replace the entire lock mechanism or does that black piece the wires go into come off the lock so it can be replaced (with the cables that go to the latches.) THANKS for the help!!!

Wonder who the supplier is for the tonneau covers? You could probably get parts from them. I guess the Ford Dealer is about your only solution...?

I bought my cover for $50 from a guy who wrecked his sport trac but didn't have the cover on and had to get all the parts to connect it to the bed. Got a diagram from the ford dealership and you can order just about any part for the cover from them. The parts I got wern't too expensive. I needed the locking posts that mounted in the bed, all 4 were around $100. Had a locksmith make keys for the lock, About a $165 later I had an almost new cover

I had same problem. Only solution is a new front cable assembly. There is likely a broken plastic tab inside that actuates the mechanism to pull the cables and its non-repairable. Also, pulling the black cap with the cables off the lock is a one time thing, so when the new one is on, its on!
