Hi guys,

I just bought a Motorola DROID phone. I understand that it can be (tethered) to my desktop and be used as a modem! Verizon wants $30/ month to do this. I can't afford that much. Do any of you know how I can hook this phone to a desktop without Verizons software?

Thanks in advance Ed

Ed,

Supposedly it can be done with programs like PDANet and Easytether (free, or cheap), but Verizon might try to lock you down as to what you can access, and if you go over your MB data limit on a given month expect big overage charges.

But, if you really are adventerous, do a Google search on: Droid Verizon Tethering

and you will find blogger sites were folks explain how to do just what you are asking.

See link below (follow and perform such suggestions at own risk):

with an iphone you download a program online and then jailbreak your phone i believe it is the same concept for the droid... since i have a droid iphone now :bwahaha:

You can tether it for free even through Verizon but then it will use your alloted minutes and not be as fast as if it was tethered and was set up for the data package.

I use WM WifiRouter to turn my Samsung Omnia into a wifi hotspot. Check into that to see if they have a Droid version. I am on Verizion with unlimited data and this works great. I have used it almost every day the last two years with absolutely no problems.

A great way to get around the corporate internet filters and prohibited websites.

Even better, I great way to avoid paying wifi access fees at the airport.
