Our oldest son will be driving next year...and this is what he'll be wheeling about in...consider this the "before" picture;)...we're gonna fix it up real slick for him...paint job, rims, spray in bedliner(and a bed to spray it onto) roll pan, etc...just don't tell him, it's a secret...

That would make a nice pre-runner for me :D

I think your son will love it, and he is a very lucky guy, because my first car was an old rusty escort that I had saved up for!

Have fun with the project!

Bart, are you going for the "street" look, or the "off-road" look with it? I don't know if you know this, but the dash and associated parts from a newer body style Ranger will fit right in. You might want to consider that for a cool mod. My first car was a '74 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. I loved it, but it ran for crap, so I also got an '86 Tempo sedan with a stick. It did 0-60 in 4 tries.

Dingo, we're goin for the street look, but nothing too extreme. We aren't going to drop it to the pavement, as he will be expected to help haul firewood...thanks for the tip on the interior!

Wish I still had MY old Ranger to give him...wouldn't be as much work!

I have had three rangers, which is why I got the ST. I had an 89, 95, and an 03. IMO the ST is really just a 4 door ranger with a SUA swap :)

My first car was an '84 Tempo with a 5 speed. It had the Recaro style seats that came in the Mustang GTs along with these stupid aluminum wheels that where a metric size and only 1 tire was available that would fit the wheel.

Well, We're off thread here, but my first car was a 73 Galaxie 500 (Police interceptor left over) Dad bought it new in 73 when they had 2 left over that the highway patrol didnt take delivery of.. I LOVED that car.. Speedo said 140 certified calibration, and it would do it EASY..

(Not that I spent a lot of time trying to see how fast it would go though) ;)

ahhhh memories..

reminds me of my first truck

kind of looking for another one so that I can use it as a project truck and offroad the hell out of it

Bart,

Good luck with your project. Sounds like it will be fun. Your son is lucky to have a dad like you. Not only are you fulfilling his need for transportation, you will be giving something that he can appreciate and will take care of. Keep us posted with progress pictures, (although it may spoil the "surprise" if he happens to see them)

Here's my old '99, (my first Ford after 40 years of driving).

I traded in an '04 Ranger for my ST, still miss it, but really liked it a lot! Had two more before it. And hey Dave, my first car was a '73 CUSTOM 500 that was made for the San Francisco PD detective vehicle. I believe the speedo was up to 160, only had it up to 120 while my girlfriend (wife now) slept. Had plenty more throttle left.

My first REAL car (you know, one that ran!) was a 1971 Custom 500. The stock 390 was anemic at best, but the 428CJ I found for it was much better!
