What R Shek said about outsourcing...here, here! Way to go. Unemployment is at near record lows, inflation in check, and wages consistently on the rise. That tired rhetoric about "what kind of jobs?" comes off as the "lady crying poverty on one hand with a ham in the other." (Tony Soprano quote).

Outsourcing and technology change....the scourge of the "blue coller" worker and now even hi-tech employees. But, look back to the past. Welding replaced riveting for large steel structures. At the time, all the riveters were outraged that their jobs would be gone. Do you think we'd have the construction levels that we have now if welding never existed? What about electricity and streetlights. All the lamplighters lost their jobs. Outsourcing? If it weren't for outsourcing, few of us would be able to afford the computers that allow us to write here. Do you remember what the first PC's cost and how they performed?

Those jobs were not being sent to another country.

Unemployment numbers are very misleading. Once you are no longer collecting unemployment benefits due to running out of time, you are off the radar. How many people are still unemployed that are no longer accounted for?

That's the common mantra of those that dismiss today's unemployment numbers.

You speak the truth, but the metric has always been "initial jobless claims". So, as long as that's what the guage has always been, and it's lower now than in decades, than joblessness should be lower now than in decades.

Do you know anyone that's unemployed AND seriously wants to work? I don't.
