I have an 2004 Sport trac and on the dash the o/d off keeps flashing. When I turn the truck off and restart I am fine until I get up the road a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions at what is going on?

Think it means a transmission fault. Have you checked your Owner's Manual? Are you noticing any shifting problems? How many miles on your Trac and what's the transmission fluid service history? If you don't have an OBD code reader go to an auto parts store and ask them to check your Trac for codes. Check attached YouTube video; the Ford 5R55 transmission has a list of well-known problems.

I have the same year, mine did the same.....I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and reconnected it and it went away........worth a try!

Get it looked at, more then likely a bad solenoid.

IF you leave it its only time before BOOM !

A flashing O/D light is a warning of a Transmission problem.

Depending upon how long the condition has been going on, you may be looking at a $400 fix to replace the Transmission Valve Body and/or shift solenoids to a very expensive transmission rebuild or replacement. Typically, the problems is caused by a leaking valve body gasket, or a sticking valve body solenoid. This cause the electronic shift solenoids to be overworked and become weak. When the shift solenoids are weak the cause slipping which causes excessive heat and damages the friction clutches and bands. If you catch it early enough, you can often get by with a simple Valve Body, Solenoid repair. If you don't catch it soon enough, it can trash the transmission.

I know this is not the news you wanted to hear, but better to know now before you get hit with a huge repair bill.
