We bought a New Amana French door Refrigerator in Aug. of last year, and now the upper refrigerator part is not working but the bottom freezer drawer part is. The real kicker comes in when I called for service they said that the earliest they could get out to the house is Monday Dec. 4th. Oh crap!!!:(:angry::angry::wacko: And, Amana is made by Maytag. :p Go figure.

Did you try un plugging it and plugging it back in....

I am very happy with my Amana fridge.......

It's designed to work that way, the Freezer cools the upper part. You know "cold air rises..." Duh. :p

I hate service calls like that, you know you need immediate service, but you're essentially SOL because they don't feel the urgency. "My toilet doesn't work!" "How's Tuesday?" "Not good, I just had White Castle."

Get a big cooler or two, at least you can make ice for it. Good luck.

Maybe thats when they expect the maytag man to wake from his nap.. I hope you can work something out. We dont realize how much we depend on apliances, until they crap out.

We had to replace our Amana fridge recently. It only lasted 29yrs....Our kicker was it was a short 18cu/f. We need less than 55" hieght to fit under the cabinet. Nobody makes one nowdays. Rearanging the kitchen was not an option. We were able to find a 16cu/f, that was 54" tall. Spent all day looking. Found it at the last stop, Lowes. That was the first place I was told to look.

One thing I learned the hard way about refrigerators is that they need to be plugged into a surge protector. All the ones built in the last 10 years have circuit boards that are susceptible to power surges and they are not cheap. Something they fail to mention in the owners manual but my serviceman advised me of.

Try what Todd Z said. It is like rebooting your computer. I had to do it to get my outside water feed working again.

Makes you think Microsoft is making them....reboot and see what happens.

Over the past 6 iyiears or so, I replaced all my major appliances with Maytags. Never had a bit of trouble out of any of them. This includes the Washer/Dryer, Refrigerater and built in double oven. My electric cooktop is Panasonic but it matches the oven which has a glass front.

My dishwasher is an old Maytag. It keeps running just fine, but the old wire dish racks are falling apart. That's next on the list for replacements

We have extended warranty on our Kenmore fridge from Sears. It wouldn't keep cold this time last year. The soonest they could come out was a week! We put all the items in a cooler and stuck it outside since the weather was barely above freezing.

We ended up calling a independent outfit that fixed it the next day. One hour labor and the part was 30.00. When Sears called to renew he warranty this year I said HELL NO your service is pathetic!

Maytags are'nt what they used to be. That's why they are rated at the bottom by Consumer Reports now. That's the kind of refrigerator I have unfortunately. It's had 2 major repairs in the 5 years I have owned it. Even my serviceman who is a Maytag repair specialist told me Maytags suck. Whirlpool is the highest rated. Maybe by taking over Maytag they will improve them or they may keep them as their low-end appliances.

Not to dampen your day any more, you might prepare yourself for a repair that could take longer. We have a built-in 42 inch Kitchen Aid that stopped chilling after 4 years. A factory authorized tech came out, found a leak in the refrigerant lines, soldered it and recharched. A week later it ran warm again, tech came out again 3 days later and diagnosed a bad compressor. Couldn't do anything that day but order a new compressor that took another week to arrive. Tech came out again a few days later and replaced the defective compressor. All told we did without a full sized reefer for about a month and lived out of a dorm sized unit for the essentials. Fortunately the sealed system was covered by warranty that has a longer period than the rest of the fridge. Hope your Maytag Man has the parts handy! Good luck!

Sears extended warranties are a BIG money maker for them. They have the salesmen push them HARD, and they look so surprised when I tell them no. At least they used to. I stopped buying from Sears years ago. I don't even go in there anymore.
