Richard..is your problem with the people who follow the rules, and get less or with the people who know the loop holes?? Seems to me that your target group gets smaller with each post. (Although I do know who you are targeting.) I dont buy it, anyone who is poor dont buy it,(except the very small percent who bilk the system) and the statistics dont buy it. Only the 23 percent or so in this country who wouldnt vote for a liberal even if it were the second coming of Jesus buys it. The far right are the ones who are resisting change. They are the ones keeping the economy stagnant, and impeding progress.

And as for Hugh.. I read your post, and if you feel left out...I will now dissect it

Taxes go toward many many things. Research programs, roads, bridges, etc. Raising taxes (making the rich pay at a higher rate) makes sense, because most of them gained thier fortunes on the programs, roads, bridges of this country. With the very people who are struggling now to make it. The people who are claiming that the rich "didnt build that" are right. Yeah you heard me. They are completely right. Most wealthy families have had thier money for generations. The new money were the telecommunications folks and there arent any around anymore save for Facebook type and apple. I completely agree that the rich must start paying a higher rate. A fair rate would be a flat rate...but how could the government adjust anything with that. Wont happen. It goes back and forth.-Tax rates. Its the shell game that keeps America afloat. Its the game that will always exist. Thousands turn into Millions, Millions to Billions...Just add zeros baby. It is the American pyramid scheme that we all love to judge. So you better get used to the notion that the tax increase on the 1 percent is comin.

We need, and will, raise the tax rate. Its a 30 year cycle. The rich know its coming. The middle class will grow. The whole thing perpetuates itself.

The raising of taxes on the rich serves a legitimate purpose as I stated above. It in no way punishes them. They wont even notice dude. You know that. Why do people not get it?? I Cant wait to see it happen. The rich could always follow thier bank accounts and move oput of the country... That would be sooo patriotic!!!!

The midle class will rise again. Support the Chicago Teachers!!

I actually agree that a tax hike is needed on the wealthy. To say that those making $250,000 or more are wealthy is ridiculous, though. That's way too low. A salary of $250,000 does not secure a person's wealth for a lifetime, let alone generations. I guarantee you a person making $250,000 will notice if their tax rate is hiked. They're already taxed to death on property taxes because they're at the upper end of the middle class. Their consumption taxes drive the economy more than anyone elses as well. Now we want to take more than half of their income? These are the small business owners of America. If they're only going to keep half of what they work 80 hours a week for, why bother. Take a pay cut because the taxes will equal out anyway and let the 5-10 employees that were relying on you to find a new job...or just drop out of the workforce like the other 1/3 of the U.S.

Where should the "wealthy bar" be set, I don't know, but $250k is certainly too low.

Chicago really has it's public policy issues all figured out in that Democratic haven of unions and social welfare. :bwahaha: We should all be so lucky to move to Chicago. I'll pitch that to my wife. Should I start with the great public school system or the low crime rate?:bwahaha:

Oh, but to go along with tax hikes you must do the even more important task:

CUT SPENDING!

You can't fix finances without both. Both parties are dead wrong on this issue. You must raise revenue AND cut spending.

Frank,

is your problem with the people who follow the rules, and get less or with the people who know the loop holes?? Seems to me that your target group gets smaller with each post.

Actually it's both...Anyone capable of working who is on unemployment or on welfare for more than 6 months chooses to be on unemployment or welfare. They are a non-productive, economic burden on society. Anybody can get a job if they want to work....It may be flipping burgers at McDonald's, or rounding-up shopping carts in the Wal-Mart parking lot, but it's an honest living, and it's a step in the right direction. The longer you sit on you ass and collect unemployment, the less attractive you look to a potential employer. If you are a rocket scientist and unemployed, you may have to go into a different field or accept a lower paying job and when a job opens up that pays more or meets your skill set then apply for that job.. As technology changes, so does the job market and the employer's needs for different skill sets. You may have to relocate to find a job if there are no jobs where you live now. Hell, jobs in all fields are booming in and around the oil fields in North Dakota.

I am in favor of spending money for training or retraining people in new job skills however I know it has been tried many times before without much success. The problem has always been that they can still collect unemployment, welfare and food stamps even if they refuse to attend the training....again, they are paid to do nothing and prefer it that way.

...Rich
