Hello everyone,

I went to my local dealership today and asked about an OEM dealer installable method of playing my iPod through my 2003 Trac's stock head unit that charges it as well. I wanted something that ran directly to the head unit, not via an FM modulator or cassette tape adapter.

The parts guy found this Trip Tunes accessory that includes a dock and corresponding dock connector cable that can all be mounted in either the glove-box or the floor-mounted console. I went ahead and had him order the kit and the wiring harness (grand total of $67 before install costs and taxes). Do you any of you guys have this system installed in your Trac, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Thats a cool deal. This guy I work with has one of those IPOD Video. I don't know much bout the whole IPOD ordeal, but anyway. He plugs this FM modular into the Cig lighter which charges the IPOD and gives power to the modular, and tunes the Modular to one of the stations, and sets the radio as well. The FM Modular is wireless to the radio itself, but somehow the audio from the video still plays through the radio. Was pretty cool. He told me, if I were into the same thing, to make sure to go with the Monster brand FM Modular. He puts this into our box work truck. Don't know price or anything like that. Just thought I'd throw that idea out there.

Part number for Trip Tunes: 19A464 (14A411 for Wiring Harness)

Description for Trip Tunes:

Take your tunes on the road and listen to your iPod® selection

through the vehicle’s speakers. Just plug your iPod into the dock

connector located in the glovebox or floor console bin. Navigate the

iPod’s menu while your selection is displayed on the factory-installed

radio, or use the volume up/volume down and seek buttons on

the steering wheel. Also charges your iPod. Compatible with most

30-pin iPods. Requires wiring harness (sold separately). Compatible

with single CD and CD6 radios only; not available on navigation

radio systems.

I've tried the FM Modulators before, but I get a lot of interference. Instead, I got a cheap stereo at Best Buy that does what you just described. Best part, it was $99 installed. Plus, not only does it have an I-pod in jack, it has a USB plug so that you can skip your Ipod altogether and move your music to a thumb drive!

It won't, however, charge the Ipod.

Bonus: For another $40, I got a bluetooth adapter for it and I now make phone calls over my stereo. So far, not one single complaint about the audio quality, which I used to always get complaints about my bluetooth headset. Not sure how I ever lived without this!

Added Bonus: It sounds and looks TONS better than my old stock unit. I'm sure this isn't good enough quality for you hardcore audiophiles, but for me it's been awesome. Everyone that sees it is MOST jealous of the USB plug.
