It seems to me that the general consensus of this site is to stay away from anything from Fram (and I've done so!). What do you think about Bosch? Any others that I should (or shouldn't) consider?

Thanks!

I have used them all. (Fram, Mobil, STP, Walmart Brand, etc.) No problems here. Now I have been using Motorcraft brand that I can get at Walmart. No difference noticed except in price.;)

There is a HUGE difference between brands!!! If you cut all the filter open you will notice the Big difference...The more pletes inside a filter the better!! Fram has around 25-30 pletes, now Wix and Microgard(Oreilly brand) has 55-65 pletes in them...Fram used paper pletes as the other 2 brands use a Microfiber type!! Use Wix or Napa filters(made by wix)..I manage a part store and research alot of this stuff and use items for testing!!

ive used k&n oil filter with royal purple oil and have never had problems. little expensive every oil change but you get what you pay for

I stay away from FRAM because I don't like orange.... I like the Mobil filters, K&N filters, but mostly I put the Motorcraft ones on. I have also used purolator filters before.

I also work at a parts store, and I only use Motorcraft or K&N, depending on what time of the year it is and what kind of driving I plan on doing, from about April -September, I use K&N, and from October-March, I just use Motorcraft.

Here is a test on oil filters that was posted last year. I read the article and it's pretty good at letting you know the difference between certain filters. Take a look and see what you think.;)

I have only used Motorcraft and Purolator PureONE, and I only started using Motorcraft when I found out they were really a PureONE filter in a different canister.

The anti-drainback seems to work better on the Motorcraft, but still seems to fail after a while.

Fram filters are notorious in having the anti-drainback valve fail. I had a ticking noise when I started my Escort GT's engine shortly after I got it. Climbed under it and sure enough, it had a Fram filter. Drained the oil and replaced the filter with a Motorcraft, and after 2+ years it still doesn't tick after I start it after sitting weeks on end.

Just so someone doesn't say I am lying, a little info about the car. I got it as a project car. The engine is getting replaced with a higher horsepower model (about 300 or so) so I could care less about the engine that is in it. The only reason why I changed the oil in the first place is to prove the oil filter study wrong about the drainback valve and I needed it to pass smog check. The oil that was in it was very clean and as far as I could tell, it looked like brand new. As I said, with a Fram, it ticked for a few seconds, with a Motorcraft filter, it doesn't...even after 2+ years of the same filter.

I just buy the Motorcraft filters at Wal-Mart. I've heard the Wal-Mart SuperTech filters are pretty decent - made by Champion Filters.
