Well, the C6 Z06 isn't in production yet, so no hard numbers are out there. But you make some very logical points.

However, according to <a href="http://www.intellichoice.com/reports/vehicleReport/vehicle_nmb/15277/section/specs/type/new/year/2005/make/Ford/model/GT" target="top">MotorTrend</a> the GT preforms as such:

0-60: 3.69 seconds

1/4 mile: [email protected]

60-0: 110 feet

Skidpad: 0.91

Slalom: 71.80

With the Z06 EXPECTED to preform very similarly, 0-60 in <4 seconds...1/4 mile in <12 seconds. The Z06 weighs about 200 lbs less and features slightly less HP and torque. It also features use of carbon fiber, dry sump oil pump, various additional coolers, and other race-car spec features. A Mustang is a sports car, the regular C6 is a performance car, but the Z06 is no doubt an exotic, as well as the GT. There is a substantial difference in the performance of each level.

Jeff-

A Vette can keep up with a 360, it'll just never pass it....forget about the 575 or even the 612, or even the 430, although the Z06 will give the ol' Pracing Horse a run for it's money, and the horses from Stuttgart as well...

The problem with a vette is that it is just a sorry compensator for a minimalistic phallus. I haven't like vettes since the '68 body.

I must point out in Tigers post that he says the Z06 and the GT have similar performance numbers. Although these numbers are comparable to you and me driving our Sport Tracs; in the racing world of these two cars those comparison numbers are a world apart. Remember a 1/10th of a second faster and you win the race. I think I am sticking with the GT.

When I think Vette, I think classic American Muscle Car to present muscle car. I personally would consider the GT "exotic" just for the fact it is based off the Le Mans race car and is being compared to so many competitors in that fashion. Just my 2 cents.

MK ..... The "other" Mark

Me-

That's true....on a race track. Chances are, the people who drive these car are far from race drivers. And should the two meet on the street, the better driver would probably win, regardless of which car he was driving. Even then, on the race track, the faster doesn't always win, again, normally the car with the better driver or stratagey wins.

Ford never built the original GT-40 or the current GT to compete with the Corvette. A Corvette was and is beneath a GT-40/GT. Back in the '60's, Henry Ford II tried to buy Ferrari, and was rebuffed by Enzo Ferrari. That pi$$ed off Ford, so he and Carroll Shelby vowed to kick Ferrari's a$$ in international racing, namely LeMans. Thus, the GT-40 was born. Its modern-day namesake, the GT, was also built to compete with Ferrari. Here are results of a recent Ferrari vs. GT test in Motor Trend:

2005 Ferrari F430 F1 0-60: 3.8 sec 1/4 mile: 12.0 [email protected]

2005 Ford GT 0-60: 3.6 sec 1/mile: 11.6 [email protected] mph

If I had the money and the desire. I would have it over any foriegn exotic. IMO, I believe I could repair most of it myself. American engineering, that right !!

I was getting my oil changed a couple months ago and got a close look ath the GT. A salesman told me they are a hard sell b/c there are so many recalls on them they spend more time in the shop than they do on the road.

The Vette is a sports car and no means an exotic.

If someone were in the market for an exotic car, a Corvette would not be on his list. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche (I am talking about the Carrera GT or 911 GT3, not a Boxter or 911), or the Ford GT.

When a 20 year old kid can own a Corvette, it proves it is not an exotic, no matter how fast it is.

Henry Ford II was going to buy Ferrari. Enzo wanted Ford to own the car maker, but seperate the racing division. Ford said no. Enzo got pissed and told Ford to go to buzz odd. In retialiation, Ford built the GT40 (the 40 designated that it was 40" high). If I remember correctly, it took 3 years to beat Ferrari. Ford then ended it. Give me a choice between an old GT 40 or a new GT, I will take the old one.

The reason why they are a hard sell is because not everyone is in the market for a $140,000 car that is usually marked up to $250,000. If you have about $200,000, you could buy one today. Just open up the back pages of Autoweek. There are about 5 in there for sale every week.

My local dealer is getting one in. It is already sold.

I doubt you'll be seeing them on the "family pricing" sale anytime soon. They are such a limited production vehicle that supply will never meet demand. True, most people cannot afford $150,000 vehicles-but to the folks who are buying these cars money is no object. Several sports stars have them and I read Jay Leno has one as well. As far as the comparo to the Vette, don't get me started...there is definately nothing "new" or "fresh" about the Vette, same old generic body style for the last decade and still a cheap plastic interior. Don't get me wrong-they're not that bad...but there not that "exclusive" anymore either. I'd turn down 3 vettes for one GT.

BTW-When the new Cobra Mustang Convertible, or if the Shelby Mustang is built- I'd take either one of these over a Vette any day. I'm thinking I like the way Ford is heading these days...I think the Fusion is right on the mark, I think the new Sport-trac will be awesome in a V8, The pickups are hot and for the money the Mustang is a great deal. The looks of the "new" Aviatar also looks quite Infinity X45ish to me. I hope they keep the ball rolling, they got the looks-I hope they add the power-lol. Hava Great weekend-Greg.

Tiger,

Cosworth is no longer owned by Ford. They sold it off last year, and Gerry Forsythe & Kevin Kalkoven, the guys that own Champ Car bought it.

And I want one too!!! $256k for the one they had at Downtown Ford here in Sac.

Not an exotic? We'll, I'll simply say this: I've seen more Ferrari's, be it a 550, a 360 or a 456, then I have Z06's...not combined, of each model. I"ve seen more GT's then Z06's. I've seen more Porsches, not including the poor-mans Porsche, aka Boxster, then I've seen Z06s.

Krash-

Yeah, you're right, I forgot about that. Ford dumped Cosworth, but regardless, it's nice to see Cosworth back into the F1 fray, no matter who owns them.

A Corvette is a Corvette. Call it a Z05, LT1, or whatever, it is a Corvette. A Corvette is not an Exotic.

I'd take one of these over anything else discussed in this thread. It may be a second slower getting to 60 mph, but it also costs only 1/4th the price. It also gets better gas mileage than my ST. I wonder how many hours it would take me to drive to Kentucky at 150 mph?

Performance:

0-60mph 4.9sec (4.7 sec Sport Pack)

0-100mph 12.9 seconds

Top speed 150 mph

Fuel consumptionEPA 23 City - 27 Highway

Curb weight Base Car 1984 lbs

2006 Lotus Elise

I like the Lotus Esprit. The Elise is nice, but too tiny. They went with the smaller/lighter route. Any car can be fast, even an Echo. Just drop the weight down to 500 LBS (With driver) and an Echo would be wicked fast.

I would be afraid to death to get in a wreck with an Elise.

I stoped by a Lotus dealer in Germany. I seen one upclose. To be honest, I thought it was a go-cart. I did not realize until after a while it was a real car. That is how small they are. I wonder how small someone would have to be to be comfortable in one. I am 5'7" and over 200 LBS. I could not fit in the car. You would have to be about 5'5" and 120 LBS to be comfortable.
