The fact that the mom had her son arrested for opening his gameboy present from his grandmother early,

OR

that the grandmother paid for the gameboy on lay-away for "months".

Somehow I think the two facets of the story are somehow related (i.e. it fuels my stereotype that poor people have issues, issues that make them poor and lead them to be bad parents with out-of-control kids...and make bad decisions like calling the cops on their young kids).

My wife has a student like that(5th grade). The student lied on her about a disipline incendent. Now my wife is on probation over a Fu**** lie. The shcool distrcit has no balls to do the right thing. By the way this this student has a track record of being an ass****. Now this student is starting the same crap with the class she was moved to. Now you would think they would lift my wifes probation,HELL NO. They have no balls..

Apparently the kids do. My wife has alot of stories about teachers, that did not get backed up, by administrators..

Not a victim of ADD, just a victim of parental neglect. Poor kid probably spends all his free time home alone with his TV and video games on a diet of Cheetos and Coke. That would f*** up anybody. Out of control, violent kids aren't born that way, they are made.

Gavin, Bad joke. People with ADD aren't liers, just distracted.

Giving kids power by allowing them to get away with lieing or what ever with only have them grow up to be criminals that are allowed to get more privilages than victims.

Adam, I couldn't agree with you more.

Tom,

As for the less fortunate having issues, in the past I worked with a legal clinic for Philadelphia and Delaware counties. Whether or not the same issues extend to all socioeconomic strata, I agree that that economic group seems highly susceptible to irrational decisions that, at times, throw common sense into the toilet. But, such traits surely cannot be placed only on those who are poor. Bad parents with out of control children can exist even in the highest socioeconomic strata. Paris Hilton did not become who she is overnight.

Oh no. The poor kid is a victim of ADD.

What was the estimated, though undiagnosed, incidence of ADD in the 1920s-1950s? My father went to Catholic grade and high schools, and if your attention wandered, you were smacked by Sister Fury. Needless to say, students paid attention. I, too, went to Catholic grade and high schools. While the high school was nearly all laypersons, I still remember tough as nails nuns in the lower years of grade school.

I often speculate on the increased diagnoses of ADD and ADHD as schools progressed from tough teachers and disciplinarians to "can't touch or lose job" teachers. This is not a knock on teachers; they're constrained by the system. This is a knock on the system, though, and parents who are afraid to discipline their children.

"There is no such thing as ADD. There is no such thing as depression. I have studied this. I know what I am talking about. Don't be so glib."

(who am I impersonating?)

Regarding ADD, it's funny how back in the day when a teacher could smack a kid upside the head that ADD wasn't an issue. Hmmm!

P.S. I watched the Youtube video AFTER posting the comment above...Funny!
