I did not do a search for this, but has anybody tried to paint the chrome grille on the 07-08? Due to pilot error, I need to replace my grill, and thought it might look good painted Vapor Silver to match the body color. Any and all comments welcomed.

hmm.... i do believe some painted their grill to match their paint...



cant remember... who... but im sure they would be happy to assist u if they can!



and i dunno... im not a big fan of the vapor silver but it may look good!

i like the black grills personally...
 
I didn't paint the factory chrome grille. I got the Ironman one and painted it to match. No matter what you use, or what the product says, it will eventually peel, especially on the grille. The grille makes contact with rocks, bugs, stones, etc. Each contact point is a place to peel/flake.



Now... Replacing the grille is a huge PITA... But if you want to paint it, spring for the extra for the Ironman grille from the Explorer. Same grille, no chrome. After primer, flex additive, and paint, it looks like this:

That looks good! I do not like the grille being the only chrome on the ST. I will check out the Ironman grille. Thanx!

Your order it from the dealership. I painted my chrome but, didn't like it. I had no problem with chipping after about six months. I replaced mine with a ironman. Didn't have any trouble replacing it, the old one came right out and the new one went right in. I have stripped the chrome one and am going to try to paint it again with a grille insert installed.
 
Yep, it can only be obtained from a dealer. Keep in mind that we have one here as a sponsor. Make sure you order both pieces for it, as well. You need the grille and the strip at the front of the hood as well.
 
How much was the Ironman grill? I've been thinking about putting one on mine. Mine is a 08 stone green XLT.
 
I'm not sure, as I have a wholesale account with Ford. It's going to be several hundred dollars, though.
 
Cost me just under $300. Dealer knocked about $75 of cost. I didn't order the hood piece because the Painted Bug Deflector covers it up.
 
I like the stock chrome one Gary! but honestly when I first saw the 07 in Dallas. Myself and a few others stated....interchangable Grills would be better and we didnt care for the look of the wide open spaces/gaps of the newer grill. Glad they at least listened to having choices and making it easy to change out. The chrome grill looks Great on your color of the ST Gary !

The chrome is peeling off of my 08 Limited's chrome grill. I'm going to get all the chrome removed and paint it Dark Cherry to match the rest of the Trac.
