My daughter has iTunes on my pc and loads it from Limewire which now has 30+GB in its audio & video files. What's the consequence of my deleting all that 30 gig?Should I delete the vids which use the majority of the space and leave the audio?

Steve,

Why dont you go to Limewire's preferences and set it so that it downloads directly to an external (back-up) hard drive. The D/L may end up going a little slower (not even noticeable) because it is not saving directly to the computer's hard drive, but it leaves your computer completely clean of the music/videos files.

Also, you can set iTunes preferences to draw its library from your external hard drive as well (with no degradation in performance).

Thanks Shaun, I don't mess with it much but I'll check out the preferences. She spends hours messing with this iPod and if it crapped out I wouldn't want her to lose all her music so I guess I'll kill the vids and leave her tunes.

Steve,

Just saying you might wanna back it all up on an external HD as well as leaving it on the computer. I've had a PC crap out and rebuilding my entire music library was an expensive and time-consuming process.

1. Put all that on an external drive. If you fill up your C: drive the system will bog down and you will not be happy

2. Back-up the external drive periodically - they fail too!

3. Be careful of your sharing options in Limewire. The tempo has slowed, but you need to be aware that it is still possible to be sued. (see article - WSJ Dec 2008)

4. Also make sure your anti-virus and firewalls are up to date. (it may not even help) Those shared files can be very dangerous to your PC's health.
