Hi, new here and looking for some advice. I have a 2004 XLT Sport Trac with the 4.0 sohc engine. I just bought it and want to get in shape for towing my Aliner this summer. It has 144000 on it now.

I'm thinking of taking it to the local Ford dealer to have the spark plugs, plug wires and timing chain tensioners replaced. Have a quote of $800.00 to do all of it.

What am I looking for? I guess some reassurance that I should do this and is the price reasonable. I personally cannot do the job myself.

Thanks for any input you might give.

Its a shame your in CA I would gladly do it for you.

Motorcraft parts from the dealer are expensive and labor is too.

That price is ok for a dealer price But even a local shop would be cheaper.

Also some local shops let you bring the parts and then install for you.

The parts locally are no more then 100-125.

Also check transmission and Mercon V fluid condition. When towing, most recommend turning off the overdrive.

Thanks guy's.

I'm getting a quote from an independent shop now. It'll be interesting to compare.

As to towing, the tranny was rebuilt one year ago so should be ok on the fluid, and yes I'll remember to turn off the OD.
