The most underrated president. He inherited a mess and if it wasn't the leftovers of Watergate he could have been re-elected. Instead we got Carter and we know how that worked out.
President Gerald Ford was a good man. I didn't know until this evening that he was adopted and he changed his name to his adopted fathers name. He was an assistant coach at Yale, served on the Warren Commission and was a Senate leader.

I am sorry President Ford has died. He was a far better President than his successor, Carter, was.

Greg, it will double post if you "REFRESH" the screen if yours was the last post for some reason. And I agree, he inherited a mess. He got to deal with Viet Nam and Watergate. On top of that, he was never, (and still the only president to date not to be), elected into the Presidency or the VP.
I flew with him twice and his wife on several accounts. He was nothing short of polite and friendly, his seems to be a saint as far as her caring about you and others around her.

A couple quick corrections--
Greg B, if Ford had beaten Carter in the 1976 election, he would have been "elected", not "re-elected". He would have needed to have been elected once previously for it to count as a re-election.
Coastiejoe, there were other presidents who were not elected to the presidency. The others are Teddy Roosevelt (who took over after the assassination of McKinley but was later elected to his own term), Arthur, and both Johnsons (Lyndon was also later elected to his own term). Ford was the only one (to date) who was not elected to either the presidency or the vice-presidency.
