I will be receiving a Ford 6CD HU which will be in "ship mode" with bracket in place. What is the correct process to take the unit out of "ship mode" ?

It might be as simple as removing 1 screw. Home units use to have something like that. It should be labeled as a shipping screw.

And maybe not!

No, there is a button procedure to push that will change you out of shipping mode. Use serach, it was discussed recently

The Ford 6-CD player requires and external shipping bracket to keep the CD-transport in place during shipping.

After you remove the shipping bracket, be sure not to turn the CD-player up-side-down or the transport mechanism will fall off the mounts (That what the shipping bracket prevents). After it is completely installed there is no procedure to remove the unit from shipping mode. The shippin mode just parks the CD selector/head in a specific location where it will not be damaged by the shipping bracket. Normally the head and CD selector is located at the location of the last CD played, selected or ejected.

Don't throw your shipping bracket away. I can guarantee a fellow member will need it eventually. :)

When you turn it on for the first time, it will make all kinds of noise. The unit will be engaging all of the CD drawers to align them properly. This will sound like there is something wrong with the unit. Just wait the 10 seconds or so that it takes to go through the procedure, and then enjoy.
