With my 02 ST, my rear passenger door will not open from 50 to 100% of the time while you are inside. I have checked the child lock and it is in the off position so you should be able to open the door from the inside. I have actually had instances were someone has been back in that seat and unlocked the door and even broke off the door handle while trying to get out. I have replaced the handle at least twice already. Most time I can take some WD-40 and spray in certain areas from the locking mechanism to the child lock area and the door will open from the inside. I have even gone to the Ford dealership and talked to the head mechanic for the service department who is a friend of the family and he tried and almost broke the handle we even sprayed WD-40 and for a couple of times it worked but when I got home I tried and it decided to act up again.
Is there any way to test the spring tension that controls the force of the handle this way when I have people in the vehicle I don't have to either get out and walk around and open from the outside or roll the window down and have them reach outside the window to the handle to open up.
