Rear Driver's Side Door Handle

Hey Guys..I've searched, but can't find my answer. Does anybody know what the OEM replacement part is to fix what's broken inside the rear door that keeps it from opening from the inside? From what I remember reading I believe that it's a plastic part. We have a 2002 and are finally taking it to the dealership for the cruise control recall (might burst into flames at any time) and thought that I would at least get the new part and find out how much it would cost for them to install it. Thanks for any help that you can give........Pete

It is a plastic part - I recently replaced the front inside handle on my wife's old Explorer. Don't remember the part number though but it was around $25.00.



Handle was VERY easy to replace, a pain in the @$$ to remove the door panel.

very inexpensive, especially if you whine " the door handle should NOT break at 15,000 miles" (ask me how i know...) I have had both indoor handles replaced 2x... the 3rd set has been in there 130,000 miles... easy to replace, a 30 minute job...

sorry not to answer your question BUT, BOTH of mine (2001) :angry:broke within a month of each other...and as the others have stated, it's not too hard to replace...just patience. Good Luck

I assume you are talking about Gen1 Tracs. The driver's side is 3L2Z7821819AAA. The passenger's side (should you want or need it) is 3L2Z7821818AAA. The left retails for 19.73. The right is 16.40. They are the same front or rear.

Can you get the parts from a Ford dealer. Is this the actual door handle or just a piece to fix the problem of opening the door. I have both problems on the rear drivers side (Broken handle and door wont open).

That is the actual inside door handle. What I have seen happen is the plastic gears inside strip out and the handle usually sticks in one position. Most Ford dealers should stock them as they are the same for 1997-2001 Explorers and Mountaineers and the 2001-2003 Explorer Sports and the Gen1 Sport Tracs.

It's just a piece and you get it from the dealer (see above for part #)

Wife just called from the dealership and they want $23 for the part and another $130 to install it. So, I told her to to buy the part and that we could do better things with the $130.

I stand corrected...it is the complete handle/latch mechanism, not just a replacement piece.

And it's already installed...total of about 30 minutes. There's a Project that covers this called:
