The Protestants say that the bible is the sole source of God's message, while Catholics say that it comes from both the bible and from religious tradition.

Both of which are ironic to me, in that in Catholicism, the "Lord's Prayer" is what Jesus said in that part of the bible, but the Protestants go against the bible and add an extra sentence (the whole "for thine is the kingdom..." bit at the end).

Actually, the Catholic liturgy also has the "for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, now and forever", phrase in it. It is only stated by the priest though.

The big question is which 'religion' leads the 'league' in ABF*.

ABF = altar boys fondled

Note: This is how as a young boy I knew I was ugly, even the priests wouldn't touch me.

The "tag" being referred to is actually from Mathew 6:13:

13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Something that is forgotten in especially the Catholic mass is the preceeding verse to the Lord's Prayer:

Mathew 6:7

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Basically, one should not repeat blindly the same prayer over and over. The Lord's Prayer was given as an example. There is nothing wrong with using it. There is nothing wrong with repeating it. But it should always come from the heart and soul. The consant repetition is not what was intended.

Having grown up Catholic and now being away from that particular church for several years, there are still several "prayers" that I remember, in particular the Apistolic Creed and the Prayer of Reconciliation. Neither of which are bad, but by and large most of the Catholics I knew just repeated what was fed to them. They could not even point out in the Bible that there is not an Apistolic creed anywhere that even resembles what the Catholic church has, yet if asked they would often times swear that it's in there somewhere. Well, yes and no. It all IS in there, but is made up of verses from all over the New Testiment.

It's my opinion that the Catholic church is stuck in Tradition and lacking in true understanding of what Praise and Worship of our Lord and Savior really is. They have a lot of things right, but Pomp and Circumstance is not what was ever intended for Christians. In fact, generally speaking, it's just the opposite. It's not in the bible that clergy are to be un-wed. Again, just the opposite. It's not in the bible that Christians are to be "poor" or to at least not be "rich". Just the opposite. It's not biblical that clergy are to lacking the newest things, the best things, etc. Just the opposite.

I'm not bashing the Catholics, I can't and won't. There are some truths as laid out in the bible that are being missed by the Catholic church, but EVERY religion has one thing or another that is counter-biblical. It's the nature of Man.

R Sheck,

You have what I consider valid points especially when you look th things in todays world.

No doubt the Catholic religion WANTS to be more of the traditionally systems as compared to more like the system of most Protestant religions.

I think it is important for the Catholic religion to hang onto this to help them keep their system closest to what i as always been as compared to a never ending process. That said, clearly the Catholic religion has and is changing, just at a rate slower than most. This is once again reflective of the traditional beliefs and followings.

However, the Catholic religion, (Vatican, various churches, Diocese) are not stupid. They have made changes when they had to in order to keep th percentages of their followers happy. I am certain that one day in the future that even the Catholic religion will accept Abortions for example. Will this happen this year, no it won't. My point is, at some point when the church is losing it's followers because of the abortion issue, the church will take a good long look at this and find a way to make most involved happy.

Just like the Catholic church does not recognize nor give divorces. However, for $2740.00 (Average price according to the Vatican) they will give you an annulment. Which, is not a divorce but accomplishes the same thing. Thus, all parties involved are happy and the church has additional money....

Coastie,

The cost of annulment varies by Diocese, and covers the administrative costs for all the paperwork involved. It is processed much like a civil divorce with testimony from both sides. The actual decision is made at a national level from what I understand. My diocese in Oklahoma City didn't charge anything for annulments, but if you could afford it, you could give a donation to the diocese. There is no pressure to do so though.

This process was explained to me by the priest, but I haven't been motivated to actually apply, since I probably won't be married in the church next time. I've been "single" for almost ten years now, and have some disagreement with the concept of annulments.
