I've been looking around with no results. Has anyone seen or attempted to add a roof rack to the Adrenalin? I picked up my 2010 STA last week and love it...

Is it even possible to add one? Is the roof on the STA able to support weight like the standard Tracs?

Thanks in advance!

You can certainly add one. Not sure if there is any reinforcement under the mounting points, but I doubt it. Find someone that can drill and install the steel inserts that go in the roof for mounting. You need a special tool to crimp them in. They may be included with a roof rack kit if one is available. Be sitting down when you price the setup.

The roof is a completely different part number and part from ford.....

I have no clue if it can be done structurally...

I personally would NOT do it to my 2010 adren.....

Todd,

I think the roofs are the same except for the rack holes, but not sure. I don't see any extra braces listed for one roof or the other. The wide base of the mount is usually what they rely on for support. Very few vehicles have any reinforcement under the rack mounts, I take hundreds of headliners down every rear, along with roof racks. Only way to be sure is to set one up there.

And like you, I'd never do it. You either love 'em or hate 'em.

Thanks guys... Without seeing one done, I'm not 100% sure myself... I may just take advantage of the great project links regarding the racks on the tie downs over the bed.. I'm looking for some place for the mountain bikes and skiis from time to time...

I also wouldn't want the stock rails... I think the STA would need something sleeker, in tune with the body kit.

How about something like this? It would carry both bikes and skis. This is the two-bike version, but they also make a four-bike verson.

Geez, mine is sitting in the back yard.

I hate 'em. I only put it back on when I haul my kayak.

I also detest rear window wipers and have removed them from every car and SUV I have ever owned.

It's like sticking a tossle hat on a naked woman. Just SO out of place...

I am with doctorcad on this one. One of the perks of the Adrenalin is that is doesnt have the goofy looking roof racks on it. To each their own I guess...

Forgot which I removed first, roof rack or the tie down cleats.

TT, I was just looking at the Thule hitch rack for our bikes. Its definately the way to go without having to climb up on the roof to place and remove the bikes. Just have to pull the trigger!! Bob

I too use a hitch rack for 4 bikes. Much easier than haulin' up to the roof! Besides, I have seen projects on here to remove the racks.

2010 STA

I have the Yakima Swing Daddy 2" hitch rack already that I have been using on my wifes Edge for some time. I holds four bikes and have a built in bottle opener on the end... It works well, I just don't like having to cram the bikes that close against eachother. Driving around, they rub against eachother with 4 bikes on the rack. I've begun putting rags on the rub spots to prevent damage to the bikes. I have taken the advice of all here and am looking at the rack project on the tie downs for just when I need it... My roof will remain naked!
