I am debating on getting Sirius satellite radio or an ipod with the car accessories but I am not sure what is the better route. I have a decent amount of music on my computer and can always get more but i have heard bad things about have the FM transmitters work. I just wanna hear what other people have done with their audio systems. And if you have a satellite radio or an ipod hook up where do you mount the unit and which brand do you use.

thanks

Hey Sean--

I see you're from Philly. What year ST do you have? I have an Auxiliary Input that works with 04-05 STs that I'd be willing to sell (well, I am selling, but I'd sell it for less--I just want to get rid of it already). If you want more information on it, click the wrench by my name and check out the project on installing it.

As to how it'd work, you'd simply plug in the 3.5" jack to your iPod out jack.

I have a FM transmitter for my IPOD that I have used for over a year. It plugs into the cig lighter and charges the IPOD also. I have had no problems with it whatsovever. I can't remember the brand name right now and its in my wife's car at home. If you live in a metro area(you're in Philly right) it may be hard to get a dead station. I live outside of the Twin Cities in MN and have not had a problem traveling in the city with it. I love having my IPOD in the truck so I can listen to what I want all the time. Good Luck.

Sean - I did the project that Adam mentioned on my '04, and it works fantastic. I also drilled a small hole in the center console that I put the wire thru so when not in use, just the 3.5mm connector is sticking out. There is also enough room between the console & lid to let the wire move (so the lid closes tight as well as not crimping the wire).

And this works ALOT better than the FM transmitter that I used before !!!

No pics but I have the short console in my Trac so I mounted the XM (and cell phone) brackets at the end of it. The XM antenna is mounted just in front of the roof bar on the passenger side, ran the wire under the weather strip, under the floor mat, and into the bottom of the console. Drilled a hole in the front of the console for the wire to come out. Tried to rig an extra lighter plug in the console but there was not enough clearance under the cupholder, so it just plugs into the regular lighter.

There are a couple of Member Projects here with different mounting ideas, which is where I got the idea for mounting the antenna.

It sounds fine with just the FM transmitter but I rarely crank the tunes real loud because I'm suffering from hearing loss from, uh, cranking the tunes real loud for much of my life.
