BHO was at the Chicago plant today for a tour of the facility that will build the new Explorer. First, he applauded Ford for not taking any bailout money, then, with his very next breath, said that he alone SAVED FORD MOTOR COMPANY!!!

No he didn't. Did you even read the quote?

1) He doesn't take the credit--either for "he alone" or for "he" as part of any other group. At least not directly. I'll grant that by saying the bailout worked, he's definitely trying to pull credit to those who supported it--but that in no way singles him out as having done it "alone".

2) He doesn't say that the bailout "saved FoMoCo"--he said that if it hadn't happened, it would have had "severe consequences for Ford". That doesn't mean they would have gone under--and therefore isn't a claim of them having been saved.

3) I don't have a link handy citing the source, but he's right--FoMoCo leadership has said publicly that the bailout to their competitors saved them a world of hurt as well, as it drastically reduced the impact on their common suppliers.

Is the reason he said it purely politcal? Of course. But that doesn't make the statement itself inaccurate.

Jim Quinn, a syndicated talk radio guy based here in Pittsburgh, played a clip of that from MSNBC where they cut away as soon as the Ford workers started applauding when the O-man mentioned that Ford didn't take a bailout.

Quinn is on XM 158 in the mornings or you can listen online.
