I didn't trade, I just 'added'...

I'm paying $110 a week for gas for both my rigs. Oh well, it's only money...

I bet little 'mini-pickups' make a comeback. I'd love to have a standard cab, 4 cylinder, 6 foot bed mini-pickup that gets around 30mpg.

Ford could do it. They already have a diesel engine in the Ranger in Europe ad everyone else already changed their mini trucks to mid size. The Ranger is the smallest truck out there.

I know what you mean. I am currently spending nearly $90 per week for gas in the Trac. Then, I actually needed to haul something and didn't have enough room. I really miss the versatility of the '00 Explorer, being able to flatten the back seat down, etc. It always got around 22 mpg for me vs. 18.5 for the trac. Big difference over 25,000 miles a year.

I don't regret getting the trac because the Explorer was wearing out and I had to make a move. But, if I can find something that gets decent mileage that I actually like, I will certainly be in the market.

I'm disapointed. Shoulda bought a different import-

Tiger: did you know that Toyota is only rated at 16mpg? Hardly an improvement mpg-wise from a Sport Trac. It only comes with a V6.

OK, I washed it myself, instead of waiting for the dealer. These are the first pictures. Excuse the messy garage. :D

Tiger, I'm leaning towards the Lotus Elise in a couple of years. The Mazda 3S will be sporty enough until then. It is a lot faster than I thought it would be. I'm getting used to the stick again, but was still able to chirp the tires going into second this morning. I'll have to see what it will do on the open road tomorrow.

yep....there's that messy garage of yours Nelson...lol. I don't know how you keep it like that...sometimes I have problems finding room for a vehicle.

Very nice looking new ride.

16mpg? An improvement from what I'm getting. Although if I ever did get an FJ, I'd get alot less then 16mpg... Nelson has said, on more then one occasion, that he'd love to get an FJ, and when I think of a replacement for the ST, a 3 isn't the first to spring to mind. I can understand the want/need to get a more fuel efficent vehicle, but eh, as long as Nelson is happy.

I traded my ST for a chick w/ stick and it's been awesome. Half the gas bill and twice the driving fun. It even hauls my toy boat.

good looking ride Nelson. I traded for fuel mileage too - getting almost 20 back and forth to work and 26 on the hwy. Not drastic, but got a serious performance boost too.

Won't post pic as I didn't resize but it is in my library in "Toy" folder.

Yeah, several co-workers own Mazda3's and their only complaint is the relatively low fuel mileage.

The absolute worst mileage I got in city driving with A/C running full blast in 100F+ heat is 28mpg in my Matrix. I usually average around 31.

Regarding the return of the mini-truck, I, too, have been disappointed that all the manufacturers abandoned the small truck and moved everything mid-size. I think they're leaving a big niche that the Koreans, Indians, or Chinese will be glad to fill.

The Koreans can't make a decent car to save themselves (The Tiburon isn't bad though); The Chinese can't make a design of thier own that isn't hideous; and the Indians still don't know how to make a car that will last for more then five years.

I would imagine that most people would buy a truck to use as a truck, what with gas costing so much and all, and I just don't really see a Pacific Rim truck being the answer to farmers and workers.

Now, I think I'm done hijacking. Maybe not though.

Maybe Skoda needs to start selling in the US

I remember the Datsun pickups that my employer had back in the mid '70s. They had little four-cylinder engines with 5-speed manual transmissions, and would run like scared rabbits. Second-gear scratches were a piece of cake (ask me how I know). We used to abuse the hell out of them and they would run and run and run with no trouble, except that they would rust away after about six years.

I agree that we need some small thrifty pickups.

Darin,

I know why your buddies said the fuel mileage was bad. It is a fun car to drive and I found myself putting my foot in it a lot more than I did the ST. This car is so manueverable you just want to speed around corners. The low-profile 50-series tires on 17-inch wheels really grip the road. The ST drove like a boat compared to this little car. I put 150 miles on the Mazda3 today and I still have half a tank of gas.

You are definitely going to love your new car. We bought Rue a Mazda3 for graduation 2 1/2 years ago, it has been one fantastic car. Especially with 33 MPG! I drove around in it for a few months and didn't want to give back to him when he asked for it. Oh well...I'm just the mom.

Nelson, when you made the ex-wife analogy, you hit the nail on the head!

Completely understand, now!

That Black Mica looks so good!
