I just picked up a fantastic 2002 Sport Trac in great condition and fully loaded. My only concern is the high mileage. I am at 166K and the Scheduled Maintenance Guide ends at 150K. I was hoping to learn from you all what I need to be aware of for keeping this bad boy going strong. I know they suggest replacing the PCV Valve but what else, timing belt, etc.?

Thanks!

I'm guessing you didn't do a PPI. Do you have any maintenance history on it? No timing belt on this engine - it's a chain. You could just repeat Ford's recommended service - you're now at the 15K mark. Or, just start working stem to stern by looking at (or having them looked at) all the fluids, belts, hoses, filters, battery, etc. If it were me, I'd put a fuel filter on it, have the battery and coolant tested, check serp belt, maybe pull a spark plug or two to see what those look like, and change oil to AMSOIL synthetic...but that's just me.

Thanks Vic. I bought the truck from a dealer so a PPI and necessary fixes were made. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I should be aware of for this particular truck. I got burned pretty bad on a Ford Escape but the Sport Trac is a whole other animal and so far I'm very pleased.

:welcome: Ben- Here's a TSB link.

Ben, see you're in Asheville. Wife and I lived there May 08-May 09. Beautiful part of America, loved the scenery and mild weather. Didn't work out for us to stay, so we're back in N Central Tejas. As far as maintaining your Trac goes, everyone's going to have their own method. I guess it depends on your level of DIY skill, time and budget, etc. Most of my work life was in military/commercial piloting, so the standard practice there of regular servicing and preventive replacement is what I've learned to do for my own cars. I spend extra to have reliable, long-lived cars with no surprise breakdowns. The extra maintenance (each car gets a spreadsheet for tracking) has also been very helpful when I put a car up for sale. There are many DIY write-ups in Projects section here, and plenty of videos on YouTube.
