Something Leaking...

OK, I haven't driven my truck in almost a month due to license problems. The truck has been sitting on a flat spot in the driveway. It is leaking something, but I am totally not even sure what it is. The fluid is clear like water, but oily like oil or other known fluids. I am not sure what this could be at all. The leak is coming from above the Y-Pipe area. Any ideas? Dad said I need to take it into Ford and have them have a look-see. He said, it sounds like a "Soft Plug" in the transmission or something like that. Any input on what the fluid might be or the problem would be good to hear. Truck is an 04 4x4 Adrenalin. Thanks

Seems like radiator fluid.



Try to follow the leak trail.

Many power steering fluids are clear as well.



If it was antifreeze, is SHOULD have either a pink tint, which may look clear if it is a small leak, or a green tint.



The easiest way to figure it out is to put cardboard down that is white in color, when it gets dripped on, you will know the color and then we can help you better...

Power Steering Fluid on the Trac's is red. It is tranny fluid.



Transfer case fluid is also tranny fluid. Red also.



Tranny fluid is tranny fluid.



If it is coming from about where the Y-Pipe is, I would guess it is coolant.



What does it smell like?



Call me weird, but if it were mine, I would taste it. I am not kidding you. I am not saying you should taste it. If it were mine, I would.



I have had my mouth full of gasoline, kerosene, anti-freeze, engine oil, tranny fluid, etc. I am still alive.



Yes, gasoline tastes like oil. Kerosene, YUCK!!! The taste like never leaves your mouth. Anti-freeze is very sweet. Tranny fluid, gag me.



Not like I taste stuff to see what it tastes like, but as many oil changes I have done, you tend to get crap in your mouth when you never intended it to get there.

LOL Caymen... Since I can't technically smell yet, I did happen to take a taste just for kicks. LOL. But I'm going to do the card board thing and see if I can get a basic color and determine what it is. I just know for the time being, its clear and its oily. If I had to guess, its prolly coolant.

LOL i KNEW You were a tough guy Tom! Do you have a chart for the taste? Seriously, some fluids can have a sort of sweet taste (antifreeze) and other have a bad odar taste bad gas leaks)...How do you tell?



Beer,. ...I think it's low sugar..so you'll still be healthy ((grin))



I thought coolent was orange or yellow in the 04's I haven't looked at mine in a while, and can't right now 'cause it's in the body shop.

I thought it was something that needed immediate attention. I saw "Something Leaking" and "Beer delivery" and thought the worst. It's only vehicle fluids, not beer. Life can continue.
