Has anyone tried or already seen a ST with a spare tire ont he back? I think this would look super cool. If there are any photoshop users out there, maybe create a pic of a trac with a spare tire swing gate on the back, just to see hopw it looks. it would be an easy project.

I would also like to see something like this. I just lifted my Trac and got 33s. I am trying to find somewhere to put a full size spare and was thinking about this the most. Anyone done it?

You may have something here. Instead of a swing gate what about some sort of bolt through mount that goes right thru the gate??? (i.e. no swing) Probably not enough clearance to allow for the tire to raise up and down with the gate.

Yeah, a swing gate would support the weight well. the pic looks pretty cool, I think I would have the wheel centered on the gate, maybe with a color matched hard cover. I have the gear basket on the top of mine, but I dont want the tire up there cause that doesnt leave much room for gear.

Why thank you Q for that unsolicited opinion. :)

One concern I would have (and that applies to any SUV with hatch/tailgate mounted spare) is a rear end collision. Just a slight bump could cause thousands of dollars of damage compared to a standard ST.

I've seen the amount of damage a 5mph parking lot bump can cause to a Isuzu Rodeo or Toyota RAV4.

well, that says it, Q thinks its looks dumb, nobody do it.

the rear collision theory may be a bit flawed, I mean if you are backing into something that is hitting you above the bumper, you are gonna have some nice damage anyway. I guess it is a matter of the way it may look. I mean I am not goign to put a 2500.00 set of rims on my ST mostly because of the damage that can result from hitting a curb.

To make it really stable, I guess you would want the swing gate to attach to the frame, but lord knows what you would be getting into then.

Just an idea. maybe when mine has 150k on it and its a hunting/fishing vehicle, ill give it a shot.

Maybe Darin was referring to the fact that without the tire there, the collision would be bumper to bumper, and with the tire in the tailgate, another suv/truck would hist the tire/tailgate before the bumper...

That makes total sense, I guess you would probably have to get the WAAG rear bumper guard, that Q thinks looks ugly, too. then you may be able to get away with a little hit from the back. I guess it would be something that you would have to measure out.

why cant anything be simple.
