I am putting together a sound system for my wife's 2000 Explorer.

A quick rundown on what she is getting/what I have so far and what is planned.

I have so far...

MTX ThunderForm 10" Thunder4500 Sub powered by an "old school" Rockford Fosgate Punch 150 2 channel amplifier bridged mono.

What I plan on getting....

HD radio with USB and IPod interfece.

New speakers for front and back doors.

Here is what I am asking. I am on the fence about what speakers to get. I honestly do not want to spend an arm and a leg on speakers. My years of industrial inspection has introduced me to loud noises and I suffer from some hearing loss and my wife does not really notice the difference between good and great sounds.

With that being said, if I can but great speakers for good prices, I would be a fool not to.

I found some brand new Blaupunkt VC 650 components for a good price. (Almost half of Crutchfields price)

I know the door speakers, front and rear, are 6" x 8".

Is there an adapter plate that you can buy that will allow these speakers to fit in the stock front locations?

I don't HAVE to get components for that vehicle, but if it gives me better bang for the buck, why not get them?

I know many here are very serious about car audio. Since I no longer live in the Ghetto, I can have a nice stereo without some crack-head stealing it.

Any advice would be great.

Don't know what the pricing on MTX is, but the 3 way MTX's I have sound good and i remember in 03 they were around $100 or so for all 4...

Caymen,

I have a Dual brand HU, 220 watts, motorized detachable faceplate, remote

and I-Plug (I-Pod) interface. Paid 139 dollars for it. It does not have an EQ, but

has five presets and one custom tone/bass curve setting. I have a set of Pioneer

TSX 6901A 3 way speakers, 200 watts per pair, 59 dollars. It sounds great!

Bass is excellent, considering the 6x8 speaker size, and the highs are right on the

money! You and Theresa should enjoy it...:

Doing some research, there are some 6x8 components out there for a good price too. I may go that route with the fronts. Not sure yet.

I would love to get a cheap head unit, but it is hard to find a head unit with iPod control, HD radio, and sub pre-amp outputs. I love that Dual headunit with that little TV screen, if they had an HD add-on tuner, it would be mine.

I have a great set of 5x7 Alpine Type-R components . I would highly recommend them to anybody and you can get a pretty good deal on them here:

its spelled bass.... not base... geeze... i wouldnt trust reviews on "bass" from people that can't spell it... hahahaha

Tracnblack,

I love it, unfortunatly, it does not have HD Radio. Also, it does not have RDS and I just love RDS on my Trac. I miss it on vehicles that doesn't have it.
