Anyone out there have any experience with the do-it-yourself spray on liners? I have an aluminum LT tonneau cover with it's original paint peeling off, so I was thinking of stripping it and spraying it with a black bed liner. I thought the liner spray might give it a nice matte finish that would go with the black plastic trim around the top of the bed. I'm also hoping the liner spray would be a pretty tough finish that would resist peeling.

I'd appreciate anyone's input on this concept. Thanks!

I had spray on liner on my Dodge Dakota's bed many years ago. It was awesome...however, the liner faded over time from the UV rays from a matte black to more of a gray.

The surface was relatively rough but really kept things from sliding around.

I used the Rhino liner and had it professionally done.

I liked it.

Not sure about the ability of bedliner material to stick to aluminum, but most paints have trouble sticking to it. Aluminum reacts with air to form aluminum oxide, the tough surface coating that prevents corrosion and coats all aluminum that's been exposed to air. The only ways I've seen to make anything stick to aluminum is with an acid wash to remove the aluminum oxide, or a brisk sanding. Either way, you usually only have about 15 minutes before the oxide layer re-forms! So break the area up and work on small areas!

I have had better luck with the roll on stuff..... Don't know how it reacts to aluminum..
