Starter on Subaru

I have a 96 subaru legacy along with the ST.



This morning when i started the car the starter stuck on, when i turned the car off it just kept going and going. I couldn't get the battery terminal off (no tools) and sure enough the smoke started to fly.



Probably a dumb question but i will have to replace the whole starter correct??

Shorted solenoid. More than likely you will need to replace the starter since replacing the solenoid is probably not cost effective, particularly if this is the original starter.

Check the wires also, may have cooked the insulation off them...
