'03 XLT - stock radio (cd/tape player)

Just recently it has started to do a few things.

1. Volume will just decrease for no reason down to 0 bars on the display

2. It will start to SCAN for no reason (it started scanning backwards/descending at one point)

3. When scanning it barely picks up any stations that it used to pick up (note the attena topper I picked up before never made much difference)

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Only problem that I had out of mine was that if I put in a cd that was also a dvd it would make a clicking noise and pop it out. If you are looking for a replacement, I still have my factory cd player laying around the house somewhere.

Travis,

You may want to try a reset by disconnecting the power at the battery for a few minutes. Also make sure that the antenna connector is firmly seated at the back of the radio.

Sounds like Ford got those radios from Panasonic. My aftermarket Panasonic radio does stupid crap like that.

Sounds like you got some buttons sticking.

This problem just started with my '03 XLT also. I noticed ocassionally the radio would go from fm to am or reverse to am to fm. Today it started going thru cd then fm then am rather quickly. What is going on???

Get ready for a good laugh, I have found the oddity.

Well, it's bowling season the ball bag tags along for rides in the back seat. It sits between the booster seat and the car seat in the back. The bag had been pushed forward and was sitting half on the seat and half propped onto the rear radio controls. This was making the front controls seem as if they were possessed. None the less, I have exorcised the demons.

So no real problem with the radio, just the driver. Guess I should get in the backseat a little more often.
